To Fred's Family,

I find it hard to say what's in my Heart for my friend Fred. He and I laughed a lot. We made fun of my parenting which always was filled with drama. We would meet and shoot pool once in a while. Have lunch or breakfast.Talk about our lives and the silliness that went on. Then one day he text me and said Al, I don't think I have long six months plus or minus. Prior to this I would joke with Fred. That we retired for our golden years and they turned out to be our survival years. Need I say my friend has now gone to a greater Glory.
A day or so before he left for heaven, I text him of me looking for wisdom and understanding of why things happen to us and our friends. So I was questioning weather God answers prayers.
I was reading my Bible as I came across Chapter 28 in JOB and then
PROVERBS 8, Gifts of Wisdom. I then realized God was listening to Fred and I.
I closed my text telling Fred. The path that I have chosen is very narrow but its not dark. We have a lot to look forward to at the end of that path.My friend He's listening... Fred's text ; Thanks so much.
A day or so later Fred called me from his hospital bed and with a very tired and weak voice told me he was not going to make it. I ask who was in the room with him. He said Lucy and they had stepped out. His voice cracked and he said I better go. It was as though he didn't want to go without a goodbye.
I went to see Fred the evening before he passed. He was still Fred, in all his pain he kept his humor. As I was leaving, I leaned over and hugged Fred holding my tears and said," I'm praying for you Fred. With his frail arm he hugged as best he could, kissed my cheek and we said our good byes. I did not know that would be our last visit. I could not make the trip to the church.
I now have another Friend in Heaven. I shall not veer from this path I will see you again.
