Asbury Hirsch Obituary

Asbury Bryant Hirsch, former owner of Hirsch Rexall Drugs on Main St in Boonville passed from this earth on July 18, 2018, after a life that spanned over a century. Asbury was a resident of Boonville until 2007, when he moved to Overland Park, Kans. to be closer to family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Boonville, Mo. with Fr. Kevin Groning officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery with full military honors.
Asbury was born on April 27, 1918 in Boonville, Mo. the son of Asbury Bryant Sr. and Blanch Flora (Powell) Hirsch. In 1940, he graduated with honors from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and joined his father in running the drugstore in Boonville, until duty called in World War II. Asbury served as a medic with the 103rd Infantry Division, which was fighting for freedom in France, Germany and Austria, through the war's end in 1945. He returned to Boonville and to the family business, which he ran until his retirement in 1979.
Asbury was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mabel and his twin sister, Alice. He is survived by his two daughters, Simone Kelly (Mark) of Overland Park, Kans.; and Christine Stubbs (Rob) of Boulder, Colo.; two grandsons; and five great grandchildren.
Even through the most difficult times, Asbury was a father determined to protect and provide for his loved ones. He loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Asbury was an active member of the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a member of the Boonville Knights of Columbus, and an avid fan of research and innovation. He loved learning about new products and researching potential investments in groundbreaking companies. He was perpetually delighted and amazed by the future and he never stopped eagerly anticipating what would happen next.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kansas City Hospice Foundation, 1500 Meadow Lake Pkwy, Ste. 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of William Woods Funeral Home, Boonville, Mo.

Your neighbor..

July 25, 2018

Uncle A. B. was a good man. I remember him as having a very dry sense of humor. I remember him hunting quail with dad on many occasions. Dad had his hunting dogs and Uncle A.B. brought his dog "Verushka". When I asked where the name came from he said "My girls named her after a famous model"...... "She doesn't look like one much". Then he smiled. He was a gently soul whom i never heard utter a criticism of anyone. He took very good care of my Aunt Mabel and was always very cordial and welcoming when we would come for a visit.
