I attended my first shiva unprepared to share a story about Cindy. When her large dinner table was mentioned I could have said she designed her house with that in mind. Right off that large room was a bedroom and bath placed there with the anticipation it would be needed. Cindy brought into her home, and in that room with the help of her best friend John, gave comfort and care to her mother, father, and feisty grandmother during the last chapter of their lives. One fond memory from a quarter century ago needs telling. Dozens in our family gather each summer for a week of camping at our grampa's farm in northern Michigan. Tents are arranged around a central fire pit where we fellows had placed 10 foot barn beams. Cindy stated this would protect the children and be our barrier of caution. We've used the term with a chuckle for years; it really does define its purpose. Well Cindy, every time the family gathers at that fire your barrier of caution will protect us and you will be in our thoughts every time we say its name.

John, Sarah and Family,
There are no words to say how sorry I am for your loss. Cynthia was a beautiful person. Her strength and willingness to share her journey and help others continues to be an inspiration. The world is less of a place without her. May her memory be a blessing and may you find comfort through the many people that she has touched.

Dear John Bowlby and Katzmann family, please accept our deepest condolences, I and the colleagues at Harvard Science Center are very sad to learn about Cynthia's passing, we remember the work and fun times we shared during the years she worked at Harvard. A sad loss indeed.
