I can confirm the tremendous contribution that Ed Gutoff made to the professional development of many Northeastern University chemical engineering students. His patience and integrity served as ideals for our students to strive for. He was also a strong contributor to the profession of chemical engineering through his association with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and his recognition as a Fellow. My condolences to his family and especially the grandchildren as I am aware of their great love for him. Ronald J. Willey, Vice Chair and Professor Dept. of Chem. Eng., Northeastern Univ. and AICHE Fellow.

Edgar will be missed greatly. He was a very caring man, always welcoming and usually concerned with his work, his wife, Hinda and his family. We considered ourselves fortunate that he was an extended family member and that he made an effort to invigorate relations with us. My he rest in peace.

I was fortunate to have worked for Edgar in the 1970's in W-4 at Polaroid in Waltham. He was a unique and extremely talented scientist and engineer. His knowledge and teaching ability were always available to everyone. He could explain the most complicated subjects to anyone at any level. He never was aloof or too busy to be kind and understanding. I never heard him speak unkindly of or to criticize anyone. What a gentleman he was. I will truly miss him, as I am sure everyone who knew him will.
