To Eleanor's Children
Eleanor and my mother, Eugenia (Jean) Marcus were neighbors and great friends in Wellesley. They both lived on the same floor in the apartment building. While my mother was still driving, they would go out once a week and enjoyed shopping together and doing errands. My mother always told me how polite Eleanor was and how she frequently insisted on buying my mother lunch at Friendly's when they went out together. My mother cherished Eleanor's friendship. My mother developed a severe speech deficit in her later years which made it difficult for her to socialize. Eleanor's friendship never waivered. She continued to be a loyal friend even though my mother's ability to communicate was limited. Eleanor would knock on her door frequently and would stop in for a quick chat. My sister and I were so grateful for her friendship with my mother. We gave Eleanor a key to my mother's apartment in case of emergencies. There were several times when we became concerned because we could not reach my mother and I called Eleanor. She went over to my mother's apartment to check on her for us. Fortunately everything was fine. Both my sister and I enjoyed seeing Eleanor as well when we visited my mother, she was always delightful. Eleanor was a guest in my home for Easter dinner one year. I was so happy the she could join us. Several years ago we moved my mother to an assisted living. We lost touch with Eleanor. I noticed the obituary and wanted to let you know that my mother passed away on August 18, 2013, probably less than 24 hours before Eleanor's passing. I hope you find some comfort knowing that Eleanor was an amazing person who touched many people's lives with her kindness and love of life. I've thought of her often and hope she is at peace. My sincerest sympathy, Debbie.

To Eleanor's children grand, great and the first generation,
Eleanor has been missed as a neighbor who was always kind, always said something pleasant and was always impeccably dressed. My own grandmother, another person who loved dressing up and who designed and sewed her own clothes as well as teaching children in NYC for 40 years also died on August 19th though in 1982. I wish you all comfort during your loss of a very lovely woman. She has been missed here in Wellesley since she moved. Elaine L.
