An open door, a warm smile, and gentle laughter. That's how I was greeted every visit. It was always a great day when I went to visit Dan and Esu. Her love of dogs, fondness for the lake and pride in her home and landscaping is what we often talked about. She would get laughing at times with that "laughter coming from the gut" she was a genuinely a deeply caring and passionate person. I am blessed to have gotten to know and spend time with Esu, Dan and her family.
My prayers are with the family XOXO

Esu was a beloved student of mine in the Feminist Liberation Theology program of the Episcopal Divinity School. Over the years, she became one of my dearest friends and a sister sojourner whom I admired, learned from and loved deeply. Her intense interest in intersections of race, class, and gender and in her own social privilege as an affluent white woman (interest and privilege that I shared) served often to galvanize others to join happily in the ongoing struggles for social justice. Esu will be badly missed. But her spirit will inspire more that she could possible imagine to carry on the important work of her life. Dear sister, you'll be with us and live through us forever. Adelante!

We are grieving over the loss of such friends as Esu and Dan. Esu held the women of On The Rise in her heart since the very early days when this organization was first founded in the mid-90s, and stayed warmly connected and supportive through our decades of service http://www.ontherise.org/. We feel lucky that her warmth and wisdom and generosity lifted up this community for so long, and terribly sad to lose her and Dan. Now our hearts are with your family, as we have seen too many times in On The Rise's work, what awful shade is cast by violence. Wishing you strength and courage.
