In 1974 there was a bachelor party in my honor given by my friend Bob Burbidge at his parents home at 10 Manning Street in Lexington. Mr. and Mrs. B had OK'd the event and it was predetermined I would spend the night after the party. I awoke the next sunny Sunday morning sometime after breakfast and before lunch. My host Bob and his brother Rick had already left to go to the Patriots game, so the house was quiet.

I was a familiar face at the Burbidge house. Bob and I went to Northeastern together and would occasionally car pool. Also, our softball team often came to the house after games to swim in the pool and boisterously re-hash our performance on the field. Mr. B was our biggest fan parking his car at the edge of the field and beeping his horn when the Goodtimers scored.

When I came downstairs that morning, Mrs. B greeted me with a smile and said you must be hungry, have a seat in the dining room and I'll get you something to eat. I sat in the dining room with visions of eggs, bacon, toast or maybe even some pancakes dancing in my head. In a flash Mrs. B came in and put a plate and a glass in front of me. Two meatballs with sauce and red wine. She sat down next to me while I ate and asked me about my wife to be, our future plans, my job, etc. etc. etc.. It was a bit like an interrogation but very pleasant and I parted with all the information Mrs. B was looking for. I'm sure I was not the first or last to part with information Mrs. B was looking for.

Mr. and Mrs. B treated me like one of their kids and they will always have a special place in my heart.

And the meatballs were delicious.

Bob and Rick, I'm sure you know how special your Mom was to me way back in our high school years when we were young and unsure of what kind of world we were about to face. We had wonderful times together on Manning Street. And while other friends struggled with their relationships with their parents, your home was always a welcoming place. Your Dad was the rock, but your Mom was the pistol. She could break out into a rendition of Oh! Susanna at the drop of two notes on the organ in your living room. And if it was anywhere close to lunch or dinner time, the invitation to stay for a meal was almost unnecessary. I, and many others, felt so welcomed in your home that we saw Eva as our second Mom. She will remain a special place in my heart, and I will miss her. Karen and I want to pass along our condolences to you and your extended families. They are all great legacies to the Burbidge family.

Dear Bob and family my heart goes out to all. I remember her as a beautiful happy Lady. Love to all.

Dear Rob and Rick and family,
My heart is broken . Eva and husband, Bob, were our very first neighbors in Lexington. We. as newlyweds, couldn't have been blessed with a more kindly and generous couple as neighbors
and friends.
I have always treasured the memories I have of our time
there and all the kindnesses your Mom and Dad bestowed
upon us.
With love.
Bea Kelly (Tom, too!)
