I remember tackling Mosi on the asphalt of the housing projects that we lived in Kokea ,Honolulu. I still have the scar on my face. Lol. We were told to play on grass after that. Growing up in the Palama area made him tough. Will miss this guy. Look forward to playing in the green pastures. RIP Sole.

For Mosi...
WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I am devastated with sadness....seems like yesterday we played basketball at the Hockomock YMCA. I remember Mosi as a genuine nice guy.
March 05, 2010
to mosi.thanks for giving your all to the patriots, and the fans of new england.it was people like you that made going to the game so very beautiful.most players today dont play with the hart, and drive that you did. i will always remember the snow blow game of 1982.everybody always talks about mark henderson, and john smith.but it was your running for over 100 yards that gave us the game.so i say thank you,and enjoy your stay up there with the good lord.
March 04, 2010
My heart hurts for all who loved him. It's never easy losing a loved one. Time does lessen the pain. May you find comfort in the memories. Sharing the special memories will lighten the load.
Rest Peacefully Mosi.

Growing up down close to Bryant College when the Pats had there training camp, I spent most of my summer days there watching practice. Mosi was always one of the best to all of us kids. My parents still have the photo of me and him with Mosi allowing me to wear his shoulder pads and practice jersey hanging in their living room. You where all class on and off the field you will be missed. All my sympathies to the family.

Dear family: Please accept our warmest sympathies and be comforted knowing that God is “near to those that are broken at heart, and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalm 34: 18). He can give us ‘power beyond what is normal’ to go on from one day to the next. (2 Corinthians 4: 7).

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
March 04, 2010
I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Mosi, he was a wonderful guy, a class act and a great football player. The highlight of the 2009 Super Bowl Party I attended was not the game, it was being able to meet Mosi, look him in the eye and shake the hand of one of my all time favorite Patriot Legends. I consider myself lucky to have had that opportunity.
He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless him.

Our thoughts & prayers are with the Tatupu family during this time of sorrow.
He was my favorite player.

My family has had season tix to the Pats since I was born, I'm 38 now. My 1st # in popwarner football was 30 because I was a huge fan of Mosi Tatupu and the way he played and carried himself. That would be my # all the way up to my Sr. year in high school.

He is a Big part of the foundation of The New England Patriots 3X Super Bowl Champs. Mosi was such a great player on the 86 Pats that beat Miami and went on to play in our 1st Super Bowl.

Gone, but never forgotten.

I have already started to tell my kids about him years ago and will continue.

#30 Mosi Tatupu, thank you.

Our thoughts & prayers are with the Tatupu family during this time of sorrow. Mosi was an inspiration to many people through the sport that he loved. You will be missed here on earth but angels in heaven were rejoicing when you were called by our Heavenly Father. Rest in peace brother until we meet again.
February 27, 2010
My family was lucky to have front row seats at Schaeffer / Sullivan, right near the Pat's locker room entrance. A lot of the retired players would come to the games and hang out there, kind of out of the public view. Mosi came by and said hi, stood watching a game. I said. "Hey! Didn't you used to be Mosi Tatupu!?" He got a kick out of that and laughed. Over the years, when he'd come to the games, he'd always say hi, always joking around. A nice, nice guy.

A dark and gloomy February day got even darker when I heard the news of his passing. Only the good die young, and he's in a better place now. Prayers to his family, rest in peace big man. Filemu.

one day i went with my boss to visit her sister in san diego, when we arrived ,this tall ,chiseled, very handsome man popped up from an old boat being refurbised in the yard, once he jumped down he was covered in children, and he seemed as excited as they were, as he was going to start a frozen yogurt shop.it was the early eighties and i could not think of him as a scarey big footbal player, he was the most joyful father i had ever seen,so sorry for your very deep loss. renee

WE offer our deepest sympathy. When tragedy strikes and takes the life of our loved one's, many cry out with great sorrow. Your tears are not unnoticed by the creator of life. Never was it his purpose for our human lives to be taken away. Although your deep pain will not easily disappear. Prayer to God will bring comfort to you as you grieve. The Bible assures us God is healing the broken hearted one's and is binding up their painful spots. (Psalm 147:3)
February 26, 2010
To admire Mosi from the stands was one thing. He was such a gentle giant and such a great player. I had the opportunity to meet him 20yrs ago when he was working with the Special Olympics. Watching him with both his own children and those children sponsored in the olympics made me admire and respect him so much more. What a generous, loving man he was with such a huge heart. I had lost track of him over the years but was so saddened to hear about his passing. There have been many times that I have spoken about the time we worked together during that carnival and I never stopped being a fan. God bless you Mosi and your family. Your legacy will live on.
February 26, 2010
Not only will Mosi be missed in the sports world, but he also will be missed for his work in the schools. I had the pleasure of working with Mosi at Foxborough High School. He was very well liked by the students he worked with and the staff. It was always fun to have him in class helping at- risk students. These kids turned into Mosi's Moose fans. He made such an impact on these kids. Mosi will truly be missed. L. Monaghan Foxborough High School
February 26, 2010
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Lofa, I was one of the many fans who met your dad in the white tents outside the old stadium; that day, we beat the Bears to go 4-0. (He had his two sons with him.) He was a wonderful guy, and a lion-hearted football player. We share a little bit of your loss.
February 26, 2010
Mosi the most fearless of the Patriot
running backs and special team players. What an absolute joy it was to watch you play. You showed everyone what it was supposed to mean to be a Patriot. Only wish you could have stayed longer. You will be missed by all.
Godspeed
February 26, 2010
Mosi was great without trying to be. If the althetes of this generation played with as much heart as Mosi did there would a lot less crying out there.Rest in Peace Mosi you will be a Patriot forever.
February 26, 2010
I had two direct contacts with Mosi, one while playing against the Patriots players at a charity basketball game in Swansea. He played the funny man and was great fun. I also met him signing autographs at Kids Day in North Attleboro with Steve Nelson. The two had been my favorite players and could not have been any nicer to my children. My condolences to the Tatupu family.
February 26, 2010
As many dark days as there were as a Pats fan back then, you were the one bright star.Of all the great Patriots who have been and will be, your name is the first to mind.

February 26, 2010
Manuia lou malaga tatou uso Mosiula. Mosiula is my hero. A hero to me is someone who appreciates his god given talents and shares them unconditionally. Football was just a vehicle for Mosiuala to introduce himself to many. "Mosi" touched many lives from the Pacific to the Atlantic Oceans. "Mosi" was like the Ambassador for Samoa and Hawaii, as he spread the talofa and aloha to people in the continental USA. He promoted the people of the Pacific with the cultural values instilled in him by his parents and the Hawaii community. Those values of respect, love, caring, and charity were the core values of Mosi. I will truly miss my hero, that smile and that positive energy about him. People seemed to connect with him because he made people feel good about themselves. Displaying those good values that we often hide from others,"Mosi" used and expressed the word "love" many times in teaching/coaching kids; a word so powerful, yet, not used too often. Having been born in a grass shack in Am Samoa, to becoming a legend in Hawaii sports, followed by a successful college career @ USC, Mosi defied the odds and went on to a great career in the NFL for the Patroits. I will miss my hero and my cousin. A great lost for many.
February 26, 2010
My children are named Steve, Tony, and Raymond and the only reason why none were named "Mosi" is because we ran out of kids.
Rest peacefully my friend.
February 26, 2010
Rest in peace, the playing field stands empty.
February 26, 2010
I was fortunate to have the opportunity of seeing Mosi play, in game after game. He was the epitome of what it means to be a "team" player to put "team" ahead of "individual."

He was,and always will be, a beacon of light for the youth of America.

There was only one Mosi Tatupu.

Rest In Peace.
February 26, 2010
The reason we were and are Patriot fans,he was and still is an inspiration, maybe one day Lofa will playa down for us in his memory!

My deepest condolences to Mosi's family. He was a great player and person. I remember watching Mosi Tatupu diving over the goal line for a hard fought touchdown. The combination of toughness and love for the game and fans he had was amazing, and he was obviously also a devoted parent. People like him are sadly rare, and it is a great loss for Patriot's nation and the world.
February 25, 2010
To the Tatupu family: I wanted to extend my deepest sympathies to you for your loss. At times like this you can gain strength and comfort from your family and friends. As I read through his guest book, I can see he truly was not only a great football player but more importantly a very well respected man. Though I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person I can see he will truly be missed by all that did. February 24, 2010

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Our thoughts certainly go out to the family. We pray that Jehovah God comfort the family.

As a Texas A&M graduate, I saw Mosi and his fellow USC Trojans spank the Aggies, 47-28, in the 1977 Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl game in Houston, Texas. When I met him last week at the gym, he was all smiles. I didn't know he was til yesterday, and then laughed when he said he played for the hometown favorite, he laughed too. A very humble man, I'm glad I met him. We know he smiles on us still. His memory will always live, through the lives he touched, just through smiles and laughter. I know he made my day when he would come in and joke with me. Thanks Mosi, you will be missed
