It seems just like yesterday we were classmates at BHS. He was a wonderful wonderful guy. - Richie Carolan

From the time I was 5 I remember looking up at Camp Manitou's 1947 Honor Board and seeing Haskell Kassler's name as our first "Best All-Around Camper," Manitou's highest award. For the next 20 years all I heard was what an incredible person he was. His later life served as proof. The world has lost a truly great person and Camp Manitou has lost its first icon.

Hackey was my counselor at summer camp-. Loved him. He was exactly the kind of counselor you want; someone who was fun, someone you respected and someone you wanted to emulate. I saw him about thirty years later; this time at Norman Lears house for a rally for Presidential candidate, Michael Dukakis. In the hubbub of all these strangers, there was that familiar, warm, smiling face. Some people are only briefly in your life, but they have an impact. Sorry not to have known him better. Alan Rachins
