I have just picked up this news from browsing the internet. I have good reason to be very grateful to Iten and Decoursey, because they welcomed me as a young student from Cambridge, England, studying at Harvard on a Kennedy Scholarship in 1975-76. I visited their house on Hilliard St many times, and was also taken to their lovely hideout on Martha's Vineyard. They were really kind, and I still remember their support and friendship. I am delighted that Iten had such a long and seemingly fulfilled life.

I have such numerous fond remembrances of my great aunt Iten, at the Red Farm, swimming at the beach or Seth's Pond, and with family in Lambert's Cove.
Some of the clearest and most poignant of which involved riding my golden-dappled Zephyr over from my mum's farm at Indian Hill on breezy summer days. We'd trot up to Gail's, and walk on over to Iten's for impromptu tea in the yard outside the cottage. The refreshments were always accompanied by engaging and interesting conversations, and the muffled sounds of my horse softly stomping her hooves in the earth while grazing nearby. It was certainly our enjoyable conversations that kept me coming back time and again through my childhood and early teens!

My very sincerest sympathies for your loss, and hopes that our families will be able to share more, remaining in touch in the future.

Love always, Valerie

Reminiscence Sent by Christopher Luckens, Sussex, UK

I was so sad to hear of your mother's death. I will always remember her with affection.

She sometimes visited us when she and DeCoursey came to Britain, and Carola and I used to meet them in Oxford, where they enjoyed staying---partly I think, because of access to the Bodleian. . . .

Her versatility and knowledge of the arts was impressive. I remember walking with her in Oxford Botanic Gardens (along with Carola, our boys, Coursey, and Nicky) and we came across students rehearsing for an open-air performance of Twelfth Night. We all sat on benches and watched, and afterwards they came over to ask for our opinion. Iten was in her element! I can still see her, surrounded by these carefree, jolly students, holding foth about their perfomrance and giving measured advice. That is how I will remember her.
