Joe Gilligan Jr. had a wonderful understated sense of humor and a caring, patient way of being with people and their foibles. He taught my daughter in Junior High School and she said he was the best teacher she ever had in Wilmington. I will miss our conversations at Market Basket. Daniel Patrick Murphy

Tim, please accept my & Linda's condolences on the passing of your father. Our hearts & prayers are with you & Karen, as well as Tabitha, Patrick, Liam, Bridget, and Declan. The kids must be sorely missing their "Grampy". We wish for all of you, strength, peace & faith.

I remember getting called to the Principal's office because I had an overdue library book called "The Science of Hitting". When I told Mr.Gilligan that it was late because my father was still reading it, he said, "Pay the fine and keep the book. I watched your father play ball back in the day and he needs all the help he can get...". Mr. Gilligan will certainly be missed.
