Jack's obituary touches upon his participation on B.C. High's football and baseball teams. But he was more than just a participant. Under his leadership B.C. High's football teams were undefeated in his junior and senior years.

As a spectator, I saw Jack do the impossible in a football game. And he did it twice in a game against Cambridge Latin. He rushed the punter and actually took the football off the kicker's toe and raced to a touchdown. I've been following football for many years and I've never heard of it being done by anyone else, at any level.

Jack was one of the five greatest Massachusetts high school football players I've ever seen. He ranks alongside Ralph Chesnauskas (Brockton High), Minnie Mavraides (Lowell High), Bobby Watkins (New Bedford High), and Charlie Sacchetti (Quincy High).

As a freshman at Holy Cross, Jack's career was ended by a fractured leg and a bout with pneumonia.
Holy Cross never seemed to recover after losing Jack's services.

One more thing. When Jack was about 14 years old, his CYO baseball team was playing for the State Baseball Championship in Brave's Field. Jack hit a home run over the left field fence. You may recall that not many Braves players did that back in those days.

My only regret is that I never got to know Jack personally
