Joe became a fraternity brother at Cornell when I pledged Phi Delta Theta in 1952. I admired him greatly and have thought of him many times over the past years, always wishing him well in his personal and professional life. My wife (Betsy Jennings Rutledge KKG 1956) joins me in sending our condolences to Phyllis and the family.

When I was an Associate at White & Case LLP ('69-'70 and again after the USAF '74-'75) I frequently worked with Joe, as the young guy on transactions, etc. I would write him poems and he would call me "Shakespeare". He was incredibly busy in the '74-'75 time negotiating the "Peace Treaty" between the ABA and the AICPA re audit response letters. He was kind, generous, nurturing BUT insistent on absolute precision in drafting AND in thinking. I count him as one of the greatest mentors to my life in the Law. Peter D. Hutcheon, Bridgewater, NJ

Phyllis, I was so saddened to hear about Joe. Although we have not been in touch for over 25 years, I have such a sharp memory of him being one of the most talented and honorable men I had ever had the privilege of working with and befriending. My heart goes out to you. Joe Kartiganer
