CONLEY, Mary Beth Mary Beth Conley, 56, entered into eternal peace on Saturday June 2, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 23, 1961, daughter of the late Francis "Buddy" and Theresa "Teasie" (Kelly) Smith. She graduated from Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School in 1979, and two years later, in April, 1981 she married the love of her life, best friend and golf partner Kenneth G. "Shorty" Conley (BFD). Together, they owned and operated Old Town Tavern/Shorty's Place in South Boston and later moved to Cape Cod, where she worked for the US Postal Service until her recent retirement. "MB" as she was fondly known or "the Baby" as Shorty called her, loved life, she was the life of the party, with a loving and generous heart. An extordinary athelete, an avid golfer, she loved the beach, watching the sunsets, singing to summer time tunes and she loved her winters in Lauderdale by the Sea. Mary Beth is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, her brother Paul and his wife Irene "Renie" Smith of Dorchester, her sisters Theresa "Terry" Olson of Boston's North End and Nancy Pickup and her companion Thomas Green of South Boston, her nieces and nephews: Annemarie Smith Tutor, Patricia, Andrew and Timothy Smith, Amy Olson Downey and Matthew Olson, Patrick and Jamie Lee Pickup and great niece Charlotte Pickup. A memorial service will be held at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St., HYANNIS, MA on Friday, June 15 from 2-4 pm followed by a Celebration of Her Life at the Hyannis Golf Club. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their memories and stories of Mary Beth. I can hear her laugh as I write this. Mary Beth was nothing but fun loving and good spirited. Shorty, I am so very sorry. We had so many laughs and great times over the years (especially at Barolo's)! I am thankful I ran in to you both in Boston this past Spring. May Her Memory Be Eternal.

Shorty.. love this picture of Mary Beth as says it all.. her love for life, laughter and having the most fun ever was infectious!! We loved to hear her stories at Tomatoes of adventure and travel with you, often sharing a glass of a nice bottle of red wine you had ordered. A true " one of a kind" that will be greatly missed and our hearts are with you at this difficult time...

MB and I worked together for a number of years at a Cape Cod bank, where her sense of humor brightened each day for customers and co-workers. She found fun in everything, and her "Shorty" stories were filled with affection and laughter. Just two or three months ago I bumped into her at the Centerville Post Office. She told me about her ordeal, and I had that chance to wish her well. We will be away during her memorial, so I am glad to have this opportunity to let the family know that I will miss our occasional chance encounters. Bless you all.
