Paul, when searching for you now, I just learned of your passing. With much sadness in my heart,I have gladness as well because I have had the honor to have known you to see the true light of your soul and spirit and how it has touched the hearts of many men, women and children. They and I will remember this light of your presence with gratitude to have walked with your spirit, and wishing you eternal peace now with Blessings, Bill R. Newman

It was my good fortune to meet and be so carefully "tended to” by Paul some thirty odd years ago at the Behavioral Neurology Unit at Beth Israel. It is not a far stretch of the imagination to say, “ without Paul's dedication and belief in me I would not be alive today. He ardently advocated for me within the medical system.I can shudder to think the grief I caused him at times !!!!
Paul gave me away at my wedding; sending me off with his blessing to a new life in San Francisco.
Our relationship and friendship continued to flower all those years… exchanging" therapy sessions “ for dinner at the Ritz.
Symphony when I was in town, etc. in the early days of my marriage.
We talked often. Paul always had time for me..guiding me over the rough patches, offering wise counsel, laughing as I shared my latest , outlandish adventures.
Of this I am sure: Paul accepted me unconditionally. Continually presenting me with” riches” that would make the poets weep. He was a “ Sacred Healer “ in every sense of the word. Reaching out/ being fully present for any person in need. In particular, those of us who find the world so difficult to navigate on a day to day basis due to cognitive impairment or disability.
Paul and I spoke often when he was in rehab. Short conversations; speaking our love for one another.
Paul, the spirit of your presence, heart, humor, abide in my heart.
I will always miss you.
