Dear Sandra, Dick and I only recently caught up last year working on the family tree. He was very generous and helpful. He babysat with me as a child in Marshalltown some 61 years ago. I wish I'd known him better.

Dear Sandra, David, Sarah, and Gonzalo,

Dick and I worked together at GE on the TF34 engine for perhaps 10 years. For many of those years he sat right behind me, and we had many long discussions about work, the world's problems, and our families.

He told me about David's career with the EPA, Sarah's journey to become a nurse, Gonzalo's (I think) experiences at U Mass (especially with the Marxist Economics Department), and his meeting Sandra at the Wonderland Ballroom.

I remember the years when he walked from Boston to Marblehead; I think perhaps he did it on Boston Marathon day.

He talked often about the family farm in Iowa. In particular, several times he mentioned putting new tile in, and at first I couldn't understand what he meant. I pictured bathroom or kitchen tiles, but he explained that he was talking about irrigation piping! I wonder if you still have the farm.

We also discussed our time in the military service, because he was in the US Air Force and I flew for the US Navy. We agreed that it was a great experience.

I remember when he began learning to speak Spanish. His pronunciation was very Americanized, but he was doing his best to do something he thought would please Sandra.

He was a fine man who tried to do his best for his family, for GE, and the world. We all will have warm and fond memories of him.

Dear Sandra:
I share your loss. It was my good fortune to know and interact with Dick in happier days, and I shall always remember his presence during numerous trips over the years when we all hiked in the Alps together.
