ARONSON, Melvin Melvin P. Aronson passed away on September 11, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha, his son, Dr. Richard Aronson (Elizabeth) and daughters Debra Hershon (Frederic), Lisa Jones (Stephen), and stepson Christopher Blum (Diana) and eight adoring grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Jaime, Rachael, Benee, Allyson, Noah and Jaxson. Mel also leaves behind his sister Mickey (Miriam) Federman. Raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he pursued his education at Northeastern University graduating from the Bouve College of Health and Sciences in 1956 with a degree in pharmacy. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army in the 1950's and then went on to become a successful entrepreneur owning three pharmacies in Natick, MA with his boyhood friend and Northeastern classmate, Herb Gray, before starting Suburban Ostomy, which was then sold to Invacare in the early 1990's. He then founded New England Home Health, a company he built and sold to Rix Dunnington Inc. He was the consummate health science entrepreneur. In retirement, Mel's passion for education continued through his philanthropic pursuits. He transformed the lives of numerous students who benefited from the scholarship program he established at Northeastern University, and he cherished the many letters of gratitude he received over the years from recipients. He contributed to the state-of-the-art George D. Behrakis Health Sciences Center, the Bouve College Dean's Fund, and the Joseph Fleming Entrepreneurs Fund. In recognition of his enduring commitment to Northeastern, Mel was presented with the Bouve College of Health and Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award in 2006. Mel also taught Advanced Parapharmaceuticals at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences and was appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor in Pharmacy for the year 1983. Mel's generosity also extended locally to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation as well as JAFCO (Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options), an organization that assists Florida children who are in need of loving homes. In 2014, JAFCO honored Mel and Martha with the Jacob's Ladder Award for Child Advocacy for their outstanding service. He also gave generously to heart and transplant research at Johns Hopkins University. Mel loved spending time with family and friends, playing golf, traveling, reading and watching war movies. All those who were fortunate enough to share his life's journey with him will miss him dearly. Services were held at The Gardens of Boca Raton on September 18, 2017.
