I just learned of Werner's passing and am happy that I had the privilege of knowing him. I was the director of Historic Newton from 2006-2015 or so. Werner was a wonderful supporter of our efforts to acquire and interpret the historic Durant-Kenrick House. He was generous with his expertise and support and helped to make this pre-Revolutionary resource available to all in Newton. Werner had a particular interest in history education for school children and advocated for it when appropriate. His firm has an outstanding reputation in the historic preservation area in not just Boston but the world.

On a more personal level, Werner was fun to talk to. He had a life full of extraordinary exper-iences that he was happy to share with those who were able to appreciate them. My condolences to Susan and the rest of his family. Cindy Stone

My husband, Dr. Howard Simpson, and I wish to express our condolences to Susan Connors and the extended Gumpertz-Connors family.
We were shocked and saddened by his sudden passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. May you find comfort in knowing that those who die God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Gumpertz. I worked at SGH for 8 years, and he was one of the nicest, most intelligent, friendly people I had the pleasure to know. I will always remember his wonderful laugh, and wicked sense-of-humor. I cannot remember a time when I would see him in passing that he didn't have a smile on his face. I also had the pleasure to meet his wife Susan, and grandson Kyle, and they were just as wonderful. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers, and may God watch over you and surround you with love at this sad time. This photo is one of my favorites, of Mr. Gumpertz and Dr. Simpson at an SGH Summer BBQ in June 2008.
