I recall walking on the beach with my father in my young adults years and saying "Dad, I am nothing but for who you are, you are so much more than I could ever be." I so admired him. And now, as he has passed, nearly every day I look back with amazement at the way in which he provided and cared for every detail of our lives as a family. He and I had a special bond that I will always carry with me. Fortunately, as an adult I eventually found my own identity. A large part of that initial identity was built on his belief in me. As a parent I now understand the depth of his love. I have also learned the love of our heavenly Father. I am grateful for both.... my parents and Christ. Dad, thanks for bringing me (and now my family) all the love, security and comfort of family anyone could ever hope to have. I'm missing you so very much! I hold on because I know you are now in a glorious place and finally too with your parents whom you missed. This time on earth is but a "blink of an eye" and someday...yes someday...we will all be together for all eternity, reunited in the incredible place we long for called Heaven.
Your Youngest, Loving and Devoted Daughter,
May the memory of his love surround you and bring you peace. Just remember that you all did as much for Don during his long illness to make him as comfortable and happy as possible.

Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Kovarick,
I much appreciated the privilege of working with your dad. Don was such a dignified man with strong will and a good sense of humor. I really commend your family for seeing to it that he had the best end of life care at home with Kitty and frequent visits from Gena. I'm sure he was a wonderful father, too. It was fun to know all your family.
Olea Defore, RN
I had the great privilege of working with Don for almost two years as a caregiver. Getting to understand Don's philosophy made me believe that I can always go one mile further if I want to succeed. Don was a hard worker, an attentionate father, and a loving husband. I've always see in Don everything I want to be.
My heart aches yes, but I am also happy because I know soon and very soon, there will be no death, we will all be together for ever, but while waiting for this day, I want you to know that Don will always be remembered. He planted so many seeds, and the seeds of the righteous shall not be forsaken.
With deepest sympathy,

How sorry we were to hear that Don passed away. In a million years your father could not have asked for any better home care and situation. It was good planning and attention to detail that made your father's last years more comfortable. In this time of sadness you will look back and thank God for everything to help make your parents' home heaven on earth. It was a beautiful service and we were pleased to meet all the family.

I am aware that for many months Don had made a courageous effort to make the most of his situation, and I was always pleased to wave to him as I returned from one of my many daily walks. Dear Kitty, We were so sad to hear about Don. We know he fought a strong battle to be healthy and able to continue his life as he had known it. We always admired his perseverance and his great sense of humor. When I greeted him one day and said his bridge buddies were looking forward to his coming because they hope to "take" some his money, he quipped quickly "they're due for disappointment as that won't happen!"
You are always in our prayers.

I cared for Mr. Herzog for a short time but I ALWAYS found it a pleasure to be in his company. He always smiled when I walked in the door and ask for "Ann"-not sure which one (Nurse or daughter). You will be greatly missed.
Remembering your great love story today and always. It's comforting to know that MR and Mrs Herzog's love still continued. In my thoughts always.
I thank God that I got to work with Don Herzog. I've only worked with him for a year, but I learned a lot from him. Don never complained about anything, that taught me not to worry about the little things in life. He was a strong will person, when he wanted something he stuck to his decision. That is probably why he was such a good business man. Don will truly missed by me and everyone that knew him.
Dear Kitty and Family....It has been such a pleasure to care for Don during his illness. He was always so grateful to all who cared for him. His courage, strength and attitude throughout his illness was uplifting to all. He was a "Gem" and I value each day I was able to care for him. All of you have become very special to me and count you in my circle of friends and family. May God surround you each with His Love, Blessings, and Strength. Anne Lashenka, Nurse Care Manager
Here's to remembering a wonderful man, father, husband, grandfather, teacher and much more.
Don Herzog was my Grandfather,he was very loved by all. He taught me so much through out the many years I was blessed to have had with him. He will be greatly missed but we all will carry on as he would want us all to with our heads high n do out best as he always did in his life to make every effort to live as he made sure with many life tools taught we could n would live when grown when he was gone, but not forgotten,we will see you again one day. Kitty and famiLY,
I was a fraternity brother of Don's at Penn State, but have lost track of him all these years. Alittle footnote you might not have heard about Don was that when he arrived at Penn State, he was somewhat awkard in public speaking. So to help himalong our brothers had him get up at dinner and read the comics of the day. As a result, his nickname at that time became "Captain M idnight," from one of the comic strips of the day! However, in reading the obituary of his great life, I was only sorry that our paths never crossede later so I couldask if comic strip reading ever helped him later!

Dear Kitty, Gena, and Ann, your spouses and children!
You were blessed to be the only family of which I'm aware to have the privilege of spending the 50th wedding anniversary of Mother and Dad in the Holy Land of Jesus! Kitty, you were the power behind the throne for your 50th (and we know where the throne was). It seems Don would have done anything for you. He had good taste and ability in life and its endeavors, including bridge! The Herzog heritage will live on in you!
Harold and Margie
Dear Mrs. Herzog, Gina and the special people connected to Mr. Herzog, Please accept my sincere sympathy on his death and my posthumous congratulations to him on a life well lived. Lessons learned from his life include it is important to successfully execute a business plan, the importance of community involvement, and the value of a loving and supportive family in life's final chapter which allowed him to live a longer life than would have been possible. I love the picture, one can see in his eyes and smile, a clever comment about to be made by Don, like the ones that convinced Kathryn to marry with him. I hope these sincere words are of comfort.
My deepest sympathies to my dear former neighbors. Some of my earliest memories are of your father taking me ice skating and sledding when Gena and I were only 4 or 5 years old. I can still see him practicing his golf swing in the back yard.
May all your wonderful memories of him be a comfort to all of you at this difficult time.
Warm regards to you and your families.
Dear Aunt Kitty and family, We were all so fortunate to know Uncle Don. He loved life and made sure we did too!. I enjoyed many wonderful times in Smethport with Uncle Don and will cherish our family outings forever.
