Merva Amell Obituary

PORT ALLEGANY - Merva E. Amell of South Brooklynside Road passed away Sunday (Feb. 1, 2015) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born May 1, 1923, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late James and Merva Milks Tardy. On Aug. 8, 1953, in Pittsburgh, she married Francis W. Amell, who died June 27, 1990.
Merva was a baker and had worked at Elliott's Bakery and retired in 1993 after many years on staff of the Port Allegany High School cafeteria.
She was a long-time resident of the area and attended the Gospel Tabernacle, Coudersport.
She enjoyed cooking and baking.
Surviving is a son, Roland F. (Midge) Amell of Port Allegany; a grandson, Jeremiah J. (Shanna) Amell of Roulette; and two great-grandsons, Drake and Isac Amell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Francis.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Deborah Mallery, pastor of the Faith Church of Charity, Port Allegany, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service; or the Faith Church of Charity.
