Elton M. Foster
1928-2013 PUTNEY Elton M. Foster, 84, of Putney, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born in Plainfield. on May 23, 1928, the son of Augustus and Inez (Savory) Foster.
Elton had been a Putney resident since 1995, previously residing in Guilford. He served his Country in the Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a janitor for G.S. Precision for 14 years before his retirement in 2000.
Elton enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, reading history books, watching western movies, fishing, dancing, bowling, and was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 1034 in Brattleboro, and a member of the American Legion and Eagles.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Willie, Randolph, Wendell and Newton Foster, and by four sisters, Orabelle Chase, Norma Lovely, Gloria Griffith and Mildred Foster.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Dorothy (Doyle) Foster; two daughters, Donna Foster of Hinsdale, N.H., and Darlene Wisell and her husband Timothy of Brattleboro; three stepchildren, Charles Cleveland and his wife Sue of Dallas, Ore., Deborah Monaney and her husband Edward of Greenfield, Mass., and Mary Stephens of Hinsdale, N.H.; two sons; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. at KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Putney, Vt.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elton's name to Rescue Inc., 541 Canal St Brattleboro, VT 05301 or BAYADA Hospice 23 Marlboro Rd #101, Brattleboro, VT 05301. Condolences may be offered at www.kerwesterlund.com.
