Dear Filemon, Ralph, Sylvia,
Your mother was a valiant woman! She loved, she served, and she lead with great integrity, passion and grace. Many people were the recipients of her great work and tenderness.
My community, the Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence, out of San Antonio, TX, honored her for her contribution to the world and society.
Blessings and prayers as you go forward knowing you have a saint in heaven advocating for you!

Ralph , Sylvia , Filo and Rose , accept my condolences as you grieve for your mom ( mother-in-law ) . Most have written about Blanca as a civic leader but I remember Blanca when we were teenagers . We were good friends along with your dad . I've got such happy memories of our time at Southmost which I will always cherish . My last visit with her was when she was running for Mayor . Then our lives took other turns , I moved to Sugar Land so we only spoke by phone several times . I know you have wonderful memories of her and those will live on forever .
May you rest in peace my dear friend ,
With heartfelt sympathy ,
While at Texas Southmost College, my best friend was Irma Sanchez, Blanca's younger sister. On occasion, we babysat Filo & Blanca's two sons. I found Blanca to be a great lady full of grace, humility and love. Peace filled the room when she entered it. I am sure she will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends. God be with you in your time of mourning as He is with her now.
I extend my condolences to the Vela family.
May Blanca rest in peace.

Dear Filemon, Ralph, Sylvia, spouses and grandchildren. your beloved mother was a true humanitarian motivated by Gospel values. She not only loved her family and the Rio Grande Valley community, she loved and cared for many beyond the local boundaries.
She was the recipient of the Benitia Humanitarian Award given by the Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence of San Antonio for her contributions to humanity and society. She was actively involved in a number of causes within our religious congregation and she will forever be remembered with much love and prayers.
We join the family and the Brownsville community in sorrow as well as in the hope of the Resurrection. Blanca's legacy was one of commitment and sacrifice for others. We pay her great honor if we involve ourselves in her causes within our own communities.
Our love, support and prayers to the Vela Family.

Vela Family, Mary and Socorro, we were sadden to learn that such a wonderful women has passed away. Please accept our condolences.
Blanca was my father's neighbor for many years. When he passed away over ten years ago, I went over to tend to the property and Blanca came over to insist that I join her for lunch. I was very busy, but how could I turn her down? I didn't…I joined her for lunch and spend a wonderful afternoon with Blanca. It was very obvious to me that she loved her family, friends and Brownsville.
I know that she will be greatly missed.
