Dearest Mitchell Family, my mother (Nancy Greene Fisher) never had the opportunity to meet George but we know he was a true Texas icon. Our sincerest condolences are with you. May God watch over George and your family.

I did not know this man personally but knew of him as I went to Rice Institute in Houston. Quite and man and Quite a reputation. The World has lost a Maker. A Man who could make so many things happen and he did! God bless this man always. God bless all that he did for so many! So many. He will be remembered always!

Our country has Mr. Mitchell to thank for many generations to come. Thank G-d for his genius and dedicated efforts to see his technology through, it's what sustains our country and its promise of tomorrow. Rest in peace, dear soul.

Another example of the kindness of Mr. Mitchell: In 2005 he gave me, a resident of The Woodlands since 1975 who he did not know, had never met, an hour-long interview to support The Woodlands Oral History Project.

I was told by someone who had been in many meetings with Mr. Mitchell that, “Wherever the meeting, whoever was there George was always the smartest man in the room”.

It is difficult to conceive how one person could accomplish so much, so well in so many areas and with such modesty and grace. Hamlet said it best, “He was a man. Take him for all in all. We shall not look upon his like again”.

We extend our sincere condolences to The Mitchell Family and all those saddened by this loss.
