A beautiful man! I first met Mr. Benton as he was a substitute principal in our building. Always insightful, he knew what to do. He was a perfect role model for our young men. I am so sorry for your loss. He will be remembered and missed.
I have a lot of great memories of Louie during our Army/CG&S course in Dover, DE. He was a great friend. And you too, Carolyn. May he rest in peace.
I admired Louis Benton for the gentleman that he was. I learned through him what it meant to be a man of selfless duty, as a citizen, a husband and a father. He shared with me in many conversations, his desire to model for his children what it means to be an upstanding citizen and civic activist.
Through Louis, I witnessed a selfless commitment to marriage. I observed him as he drove his wife Carolyn for long distances to her PhD residencies on the east coast. He was always close by when she called him to pick her up. She lived with the confidence that her husband would be there in minutes upon her call, and I am humbled to have been a beneficiary of that service. He was already showing signs of deteriorating health when I met him, but he was always ready to escort his wife, carry her bags and mine while driving us to our destination in a moments notice. When I finally had a chance to visit Buffalo at Carolyn's invitation, I observed other men who showed the same kind of attentiveness that I saw in Louis. I was impressed at how this chivalry seemed to be a part of the Buffalo culture.
To my friend Carolyn Benton: Thank you for loving Louis to the very end of his life with the grace and courage that only you can show. The two of you are a wonderful example of what the Creator intended in a long lasting relationship. I can only guess after so many years, that there were times that were not perfect, but what a blessing it is for all to see and know what is possible through faith.
LOUIS BENTON: REST NOW MY BROTHER. YOUR LIFE IS A DEMONSTRATION OF A JOB WELL DONE!

From other guest book entries and our personal conversations here at Wells Fargo Advisors, it would seem quite evident that you will carry on the legacy of your father. My heartfelt condolences on your families loss. I will be in Boston at client meetings on Friday and Saturday, thus sadly, I will not be able to be at the wake or the service.
