John F. POTTER

POTTER - John F. March 26, 2016. Beloved husband of Carol (Painter) Potter; loving father of Melissa (Tedd) Neff and David (Marci) Potter; cherished grandfather of Sam and Olivia Neff and Jack Potter. No prior visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, where memorials may be made in lieu of flowers or to Kevin Guest House, 782 Ellicott St., Buffalo, NY 14203. A retired project manager for Praxair in the Town of Tonawanda, John was born in Pittsfield, MA, where he graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady, earning a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, now Carnegie Mellon University, and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. After college, he worked for the Duquesne Light Co. in Shippingport, PA, and in 1961 moved to Buffalo to work for the former Linde Division of Union Carbide. As a project engineer, he traveled extensively in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as to Europe, Brazil, Turkey, Morocco and South Korea. John retired in 1993. In retirement, John worked as a consultant in project management for the AGA Corp. in Cleveland, and was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Active in Westminster Presbyterian Church, John served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, member of the Family Life Council and volunteer in the after- school energy program. John also was a longtime volunteer at Kevin Guest House and served on its board of directors for six years. In 2005, he received the Kevin Garvey Award for his service.
