Elsie Edith (Holley) Teman was born on June 11, 1926 in Bowie, Texas to Fannie and Frank Holley.
She was the youngest of 5 children, Pearl, Lester, Frank, and Anna. Elsie and her parents moved to Burlington when she was 3 years old.
They lived south of town near the Smoky Hill School where she attended first grade.
They then moved into Burlington where she attended school up to her junior year. Her father died when she was 15 and her mother died when she was 16. She graduated high school in California while living with her brother Frank.
Elsie returned to Burlington and in October of 1945 while working at Shorty's Palace, she met the love of her life, Donald Teman.
She was impressed with how tall and quiet he was. Five months later they were married on March 2, 1946 in Goodland, Kan.
They lived north of town close to Don's parents, Mable and Henry Teman. He worked on the homestead and for Harley Rhoades. They moved into Burlington five years later with their two boys, Butch and Bruce.
Don worked for Kit Carson County Road and Bridge for 24 years and the city of Burlington for 10 years.
Elsie stayed at home with the boys through their grade school years and then went to work for Burlington School District for 23 years.
After working hard and saving smartly they were able to enjoy their retirement. They enjoyed being with their friends and took several trips abroad.
Their greatest joy was the time they were able to spend with their 2 grandchildren, Shiloh and Kale.
Elsie and Don were so dedicated to each other, always doing things as a couple.
Elsie lost the love of her life on Feb. 11, 2008. She was never quite the same but continued to have her positive attitude and humorous wit.
She had already lost her son Butch in 2003 and when she lost Bruce in 2011 we thought that we would not have her much longer. But with that same attitude and wit she was with us for another 7 years.
Elsie passed away at Grace Manor Care Center, Burlington, on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the age of 91.
Those left to remember her are her daughter-in-law, Lana Teman, grandchildren Shiloh and Seth Gutierrez, Kale and Liz Teman, and her great-grandson Otto Teman.
Also surviving are her nieces JoAnn Ventura and Connie Campbell and nephews John VanDorn, Homer Kibbee, Jim Stephens, Dan Stephens and their families.
