MURDOCH Dame Elisabeth AC DBE The Director, Members and Chair of the Board of Management, Friends of Baker IDI and the entire staff of Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute extend our sincere condolences to Dame Elisabeth Murdoch's family and friends on the loss of an inspirational woman and gracious philanthropist whose life we shall celebrate and whose memories we shall cherish. Dame Elisabeth was a generous and committed benefactor of the Institute's research for many decades. In 2006, when the Institute celebrated its 80th anniversary, Dame Elisabeth presided over the celebrations as our honorary Patron. Dame Elisabeth's support for the Institute extended to a genuine interest in our research agenda and we were delighted to host numerous visits to our facilities. Our scientists were touched by her warmth as well as incisive questions and a real interest in their work. She took a particular interest in our early career scientists, fostering the careers of aspiring young researchers through the Institute's Early Career Scholarship program. Since 2006, Dame Elisabeth has opened her gardens at Cruden Farm raising thousands of dollars for cardiovascular and diabetes research as well as providing an opportunity for visitors to learn more about prevention, treatment and management of chronic disease. Dame Elisabeth will be fondly remembered for a long life devoted to helping others. The Baker IDI community is deeply grateful for Dame Elisabeth's generous friendship as we mourn her passing.
