I just heard about this and wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family. My parents both went to high school with him in Shelburne and he was my dad's CO at the guard. Most importantly....he was an outstanding individual. No doubt in my mind he saved my life a few times and chose to guide me on 'alternate paths'. I will always remember him with the utmost respect and admiration and hope he knew just how many of 'us kids' he helped. There were days I didn't like him much, that wasn't his fault but mine...I always loved him and his smile. I've tried to pay it forward to many children because of him. I wish I could have thanked him for all he did and was responsible for me doing. He will be missed, but remembered. BHS class of 1975
I was also a student of Paul's at Edmunds and then BHS. My children also had him as a principal in Ferrisburgh, so I was able to re connect with him later in life. He was a wonderful man, who really cared about kids. He will be missed very much. Not too many people can say they dedicated their entire working life the way he did.
I was a student under Mr. Danyow at two Schools, Edmunds & BHS, and I only have the fondest of memories of him. When I ran into him many years later he remembered my name. How cool is that! I will miss our brief encounters.
Dear Helen and Family: I am so sad to hear about Paul's death. I met him about 40 years ago when he was an asst. principal at Edmunds and I was a protective services social worker for the state. Paul worked hard to identify at risk children that needed our services. He was kind, caring, compassionate and dedicated to the children in his school. I will miss seeing him around Shelburne. I am so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He was a great mentor and role model to me and I shall always be indebted to him for his wonderful example of how to lead. My regrets that I was unable to attend the service-- I was enroute home from a consulting job in California. We send our deepest sympathies to you, Helen Mary, and your entire family.
I am so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He was a great mentor and role model and my first year as Assistant Superintendent in Burlington with him was a tremendous learning experience. I regret missing the service but have been traveling home on the 13th from a consulting job in Fresno CA. We send our prayers and sympathy to Helen Mary and family.
Paul hired me as a teacher in 1969 when I was just back from Vietnam. I taught at Edmunds when he was asst. principal, and at BHS when he was principal. He was a wonderful man, a great guide and mentor to me.

Years ago I worked as a professional labor advocate at the time Paul was involved in school district management. I knew Paul personally and professionally. Given our different roles, we often debated the facts and reasoning behind labor/management disputes. Despite this, however, in any of my dealings with Paul I found found him to be honest, sincere, respectful, understanding and fair. He was a real gentleman whom I always could trust. In the often hostile world of labor relations, these were all important traits. Indeed, these are the same traits we strive to instill in our children and grandchildren.
I have had the pleasure of knowing several of Paul's children and grandchildren and must say,"Good work, Paul. Your fine example taught them well."
My sincerest condolences.

I went to high school with Paul and remember him fondly. He was one of Shelburne High School's star athletics.
He was well liked and respected my his school mates and teachers. He accomplished much in life from being a teacher, principal, and a Col. in the National Guard. He was also a very fine family man and a leader in the community. May he rest in peace
Dear HelenMary and family,
I was so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. Paul and my husband flew helicopters in the National Guard together. I loved the rescue of the duck story from Lake Champlain they did. I am sure they are flying together again. My thoughts to all of you.
To the Danyow family
While Paul is being remembered as a wonderful educator, I want to also insure that he is remembered as the Officer and Gentleman that he was. We met in the early 70's when I first joined the National Guard. Our paths crossed infrequently for 15 years. His reputation was that of a dedicated, honest, fair, and ethical soldier and commander. He ws a mentor and highly respected by the entire National Guard community and everyone who knew him. Vermont was served well. Rest in peace, Colonel.

Diane and I send you all our condolences and prayers. We are both so sad today for your loss. Paul was a friend to us both; my mentor and hunting buddy. I remember so well the early morning meetings, greeting the students together as they arrived, Paul's smile and his terrific leadership. He made a difference in the lives of many people - students, colleagues and friends. He always saw the good in people and will be missed. May he rest forever in the peace of the Lord.
Helen Mary & Family,
I was so sorry to read about Paul in today's paper. I remember him well and always enjoyed the many conversations we had. I always thought of him as the ultimate educator. He had a most positive reputation among those of us in the education field. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
Mr.Danyow was my junior high math teacher. I was a bit of a trouble maker. He saw something in me that I did not know was there, he continued to work with me and I learned to put my wise cracks in check. I do not think I would have continued school or go as far as I did with out Mr. Danyow support. He made me feel like a person with achievable goals. Rest in Peace Mr. Danyow

I extend my heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Danyow's family. I have memories from being a student at Edmunds Jr. High & BHS, from visiting my sister Natalie on Collamers Circle, and then working at Ferrisburg school when Mr. Danyow was no longer working, but 'stopping' in. I can say with all honesty that I have thought of him recently, his warmth, ability to truly listen, humor and dedication have been an example to many, setting a high standard. Thank you Mr. Danyow for 'being there' for so many of us!
