SUSAN DEMETRULES - FRANKLIN - Susan Demetrules, 72, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 25, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Stamford, Conn., on Feb. 16, 1941, the daughter of the late Henry and Jean (Batchelor) Geist. Sue attended elementary and high school at Daycroft in Connecticut, and was a 1964 graduate of Johnson State College. She started her teaching career in Rutland for a brief period, and then dedicated 34 years at the Enosburg Falls Elementary School, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the NEA and VEA. She served as Union Representative, a position she thoroughly enjoyed during contract negotiations. Sue had many interests including, quilting, sewing, knitting and crafts in general, as well as cooking. She also liked to play many different games especially cards (SkipBo). She was an avid Red Sox fan. Sue loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially at the camp at Martins Pond in Peacham, and then at Lake Carmi in Franklin. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, James Demetrules of Franklin; her children and their families, Jamie Rushford of Enosburg Falls; Denise Huntsman and husband, Dean, their children, Malinda and Haylie, and Malinda's son, Noah, of Beaufort, S.C.; and Chris Demetrules and wife, Lynn, and Lynn's children, Allie and Curtis Denton, of Georgia, Vt.; sisters, Patricia Dielman and husband, Fred, of Danbury, Conn., Nancy McAllister and husband, Joe, of Melbourne, Fla., and Carol Courtney and husband, Ron, of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Sue was predeceased by her sister, Joan Geist. A time of visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Private messages of condolence may be sent to Sue's family online through www.spearsfuneralhome.com.
