Was this the Frank Tanabe who served as the Navy Public Affairs Officer in Okinawa? If so, I served under him in 1974-75. He was a wise and gentle man of few words and deep integrity. I was young and restless during that time, and Frank was a constant source of dignity and self-control. I doubt that he ever knew what a lasting influence he had on many of us. He was supremely proud of his daughter.

We should all take our right to vote as serious as these brave men and women who have fought and died for our right to vote. My father also died after casting his ballot in 1998. Hee was a POW in WWII. He instilled in me to responsibitiy to be informed and then as an informed citizen vote as if our freedom depends on it. I hope your father's example reminds us of this again. God bless.

I beleive I have read and heard about his service and those of his unit before. Please accept our apologies for how Japanese-Americans were treated then. Sure I am two generations later, but still it is warranted. I thank this man for his service, determination, spirit, and patriotism that is above and beyond most I have experienced. He must have been quite the patriarch of his family. God Bless all of you and keep you well at this sad time. However, he lived well!!!!
