My parents moved into 4208 45th Street in 1958. I was a young child in the summer of 1970 when the Bell family moved into the house next door at 4212. After my dad died, mom sold her house in 1997. During those 27 years the Bell family were excellent neighbours! As kids, Ricky and I used to play together, and we attended the same schools. Mr. Bell always took excellent care of his house and yard. I remember when he worked in the produce dept at the COOP store. I will fondly remember Mrs. Bell's wonderful warm and friendly smile!! She was a very compassionate person. A few times, on hot summer days, she would call over the fence to us kids, and ask if we would like a treat and then come out with a large ice cream cone. Mr. and Mrs. Bell were warm and caring people and had a strong faith and as far as I remember were associated with the Glamorgan Church of God up the street from our places for many many years. I was in the city yesterday and drove down 45th street and noticed the for sale sign on their house. Concerned and curious, I checked obituaries to see both had recently passed away. I don't remember Gerald and George much, but of Deb, whose kids visited there often, and Rick who I grew up with I have many memories. God Bless to you all. Love from your former neighbour, Glenn P. Michell
Bettie welcomed me as her daughter in law 38 years ago. How fortunate I was to have her love, laughter, & support. A day won't go by that I won't think of you and honor you. I love you Bettie. You were my second Mom. Your son Gerald is the love of my life.
Freshy, I am reflecting on both your parents; really, really "good folks" both Bettie and Basil, my life was enriched because I got to meet and spend some time with them. Freshy, they left their greatest legacy through you as you are the perfect product of what mom and dad represented-class! God Bless!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. Bettie was one classy lady and will be missed at Bingo and in the dining room at Southwood. What a great family you are. Your mom and the memories of her will stay in your hearts forever. She is now watching over you with great pride and the wonderful job she did raising you.
