I would just like you to know that Peter is one of my heroes. I was at U of C studying petroleum economics when Peter fought the infamous NEP battle and preserved our rights as Albertans. He was one of the greatest statesmen to ever serve our country as evidenced his work with Quebec and the help he gave Newfoundland when they needed it as they helped us during the depression by sending us fish. I thank you for your sacrifices as a family for the time that he spent protecting his beloved Alberta. Mike Stone
To the family, I wish to extend my sincere condolences on your loss and fond memories of a man many admired. Mr. Loughheed was a great statesman, a visionary and profound thinker that led Albertans through a very tough political climate in Canada. We owe this great Albertan a great deal.
For those of us who lived in Alberta in the late 70's Mr. Lougheed was a visionary leader. Alberta and its citizens owe him our deepest respect and gratitude.
My prayers go to his family at this time. Alberta and Canada are better off because of what he did during his life.
Sending sincere sympathy to Jeanne and all the family. Wonderful memories to cherish forever.
Sincerely. Liz Zaozirny
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Lougheed many years ago when I rented a car to him. He was so gracious and thankful for every option offered him that now, more than 20 years later, I think of him as one of the kindest people I have ever met. If we all would conduct ourselves in the same manner in our daily lives, the world would truly be a better place.
My deepest sympathy to Peter's family, he was a great Canadian, who made a difference, and will be missed!
May I give to you my deepest sympathy at this extremely hard time in your lives.
All the beautiful tributes to your beloved Peter are so true. I knew him in school, Central High. I have read all other years of his life covered and no doubt these years have been too. If I may I would like to tell you why they are special to me.
I can still see him coming down the hall, books on his hip, always a smile on his face and a friendly hi or hello to everyone he met (whether he knew them or not).
He was extra special to me! I was a shy country girl from a two room school and suddenly there were 300 or more students. I was in a trigonometry class with a very rare teacher, Mr. Asselstine. He called on me to give my answer and asked how I reached it. I gave it and he immediately went into a rage and told me I just made it “too complicated”. Needless to say I was completely humiliated. He turned his back to show us “how” and Peter whispered to me to meet him in spare in the Library. In about ten minutes he taught me more about trigonometry then Mr. Asselstine had taught me in three months. Without that help I would have undoubtedly failed.
I had the good fortune to accidentally meet Peter again at the Foothills Hospital. There were two of us ladies in the waiting room. One was crocheting and I was quilting when Peter came in and true to character began a conversation. First with the other lady and then with myself. We exchanged a few words and I said I remembered him but he wouldn't remember me to which he replied “no I'm sorry I don't”. When I said we had gone to school together he said “where” and I told him Central. He said well you're just the person I was looking for. “How many students were there then?” he asked. I said “I don't know for sure but I would say 300 to 350.” “That's just what I thought” he said enthusiastically, “now I can tell my kids I met someone else that agreed with me.”
He was called in then and after a cordial good bye he was gone.
I was so happy to have had the opportunity to tell him “thank you”. It is just one more of the multitude of little things that Peter was famous for. I know that I will be one of the millions of people who will miss, but never forget what a wonderful person he was.
Once again, I am so sorry for your loss and ours; may God Bless you all.
Our sincere condolences to the entire Lougheed family. Mr. Lougheed was a proud Canadian who stood up for Alberta with integrity and civility. He was strong but also gracious and was a true visionary. He will be greatly missed. Although I did not know him personally, I felt his impact in my life with his wise political decisions and always respected him.
Our sincere condolences for Mr. Lougheed. Alberta is a better place to live because of him.
Peter, a special man and dear friend. What a life to celebrate! My thoughts go out to the Lougheed family
An outstanding true Canadian,
Peter Lougheed stood up for what he believed was good and right for his family, his province and his country. Through his actions he taught me that I too could achieve good things without trampling on the rights and dignity of others. I was fortunate that he made the choice to stand for election in Alberta at the time I reached voting age in that province. He showed us young adults that politics could be civil and achieve good for the province. He led the government of the day and guided them towards the goals that made Alberta strong and its citizens proud to be called Albertans. Thank you sir! Peter Lougheed has rightfully been praised as being a gentleman and a statesman but he was my HERO. I am grateful to you Mr. Lougheed for stepping up to the plate time and again on my behalf; and, to your loving family for the sacrifices they had to make. God has “raised you up on eagle's wings and will hold you in the palm of His hand”.
I've been thinking about Premier Lougheed a lot in the last few days. He was a kind, decent man who cared about others. It sounds quaint, but there are far too few people who live their values as he did. My mother signed your guest book and included my blog--if anyone would like to read my post about Mr. Lougheed and my meeting with him in 1977, scroll down to the September 19th post since there has been another one put up since. My sympathies to the family. He made a lasting impression on so many, me included.
I delivered an order from McGill Drugs to Mr. Lougheed back in 1975. I remember him greeting me like I was the most important person in the world, and asked me questions about myself and my dreams and was genuinely interested in what I replied. Our 5 minute encounter left a lasting impression on me.
God Bless Him
His leadership in our province - made me feel more pride in being an Albertan and a Canadian. He was a leader we all should always be thankful to have had, as we remember him, his leadership and as we pray for comfort and peace to his family.
Truly a great man who inspired so many. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family.
I send my condenlences to your family/ friends from everyone in Edmonton
I send my condenlences to your family/ friends from everyone in Edmonton
I think it was about 1976 and Premier Lougheed was at an event at my community centre. I was there with a number of other Girl Guides in my uniform and as he mingled around the room he stopped me and asked me a bit obout Girl Guides. Seeing the various badges I had on my badge scarf, he said to me "I helped some girls with their Citizenship badge. Do you have that one?" I said yes and he asked me to show him which one it was so that he could see what the other girls had earned. He thanked me, wished me well in my Guiding career and moved on. I remember as a 12 year old being so surprised that he actually took the time to talk to a kid when there were lots of "important" people around. And that he approached me, not the other way around. I don't remember anything else about that day, just the chat with Premier Lougheed. My condolences to his family, he will be greatly missed.
I lived and worked in the Calgary area from 1981 to 2006.
And like many people, a number of my most rewarding experiences were linked - directly or indirectly - to the work of Peter and Jeanne Lougheed.
RIP Mr. Lougheed. You have done for this province and this country something that will most likely will never be repeated. You were a man for the people.
Our sincere condolences to the Lougheed Family. Alberta is the better place to live because of Mr. Lougheed.
My condolences to Jean and family. I would like to share my daughter's thoughts from her blog. She had the privilege of meeting Premier Peter Lougheed and here are her comments; https://karinschwier.wordpress.com
Thank-you Mr. Lougheed for being a gentleman as well as a very wise leader. You changed the face of Alberta.
Both new Canadians, my husband & I married in 1962. We voted for Peter Lougheed & after the loss of the Allied Arts Centre were thrilled when he created the Ministry of Culture.
It would have been 1967 (The Year the Centennial Planetarium opened) & after that my husband had many meetings with Horst Schmit, I believe. We were & always will be thankful for the Hon. Peter Lougheed and his forward thinking - from Arts & Culture to the creation of the Heritage Fund.
I therefore offer my condolences to Jean, always supportive & by his side, & to the family. Sincerly,
Your father was a great Canadian and will be truly missed by Canadians and Albertans alike.
Tom and Darlene Gordon
I was a new Canadian in Alberta in 1972 and I saw first hand the changing face of Alberta with new Parks, highways, hospitals, historic sites and one could see the prosperity showing everywhere.
I admired Premier Peter Lougheed for his vision, foresite and the passion he had for him home province and the Country Canada.
I believe we lost a great Canadian and a Legend. I submit my sincere condolences to the whole family and pray the lord for granting peace to the family for a great loss. Long Live Peter Lougheed!
Bal Boora, Lethbridge, AB.
I will always remember your father as a true gentleman and a visionary. I have not seen you in many years and now reside in Seattle. Please accept my my deepest condolences to you and your family during this time. Sincerely, Stephanie Bertram-Schuur
He saw an Alberta far ahead of the rest of us and worked towards that Alberta. We, the people of Alberta owe him a great deal and young politician will learn from him. Youn will be missed sir.
what an incredible loss for so many. thank you for sharing your husband, dad and grandfather with us. For all his public successes, it is obvious that family was paramount to him. The world would be such a better place if there were more people like Peter Lougheed. Deepest sympathies for your loss.
I met him in the early 1970's and never forgot him and admired him and tried to live as he thought we all should. My condolances to the Loughheed family.Cheryl Taylor, Leduc, Alberta.
My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Mr. Lougheed's immediate and extended family. He was a great man and Alberta was blessed to have him as our premier and will never be forgotten. He lives in our hearts. God bless.
Mr. Lougheed was not only a great leader but a kind and interesting man. He and his wife Jean will be remembered fondly as wonderful people and fantastic employers.

our thoughts and prayers our with
I used to work at Bennett Jones. Mr. Lougheed was always ready with a "good morning" for any person, whether secretary, associate, or partner, with whom he travelled on the long ride up the elevator to the top floor. Mr. Lougheed really was a man of the people, one in a million.
Peter Lougheed was a man to be admired in many ways. He was a great Premier and will surely not be forgotten. Our condolences to the entire family. Norm and Jennifer
Going through school, Peter Lougheed was the only Premier of Alberta I knew. Looking back I can now see the tremendous contribution he made to Alberta and Canada which have influenced all our lives. Thank you, Mr. Lougheed.
To the Lougheed Family, please accept my sympathy in your loss. Thank you for sharing your loved one with our province and country. His integrity, tenacity and insight is very much appreciated. He did his job well and now his real reward has come.
As a proud Albertan, I send my condolences to the Lougheed family. Thanks for building a great province.
I'm real sorry about it and familiars and everybody else; received my condolences about the death of Peter Lougheed, a great Leader of Alberta. A.Oscar
Peter Lougheed was a great Albertan and a great Canadian.
My Deepest sympathy to the Lougheed family. He was truly the best Priemier and champion that Alberta ever had. As a former Calgarian I remember our frienship with the family during my years in the Grand Coffee Shop. Dora Greenberg Gray-Israel
My sympathies to the immediate & extended members of Mr Lougheed's family. He was a visionary. ... a person of integrity & genuine respect for the citizens of Alberta. A sad day it was when he left his career of politics..... No one has filled his shoes since or has come close to conducting themselves as he did! He had our best interests as his primary concern at all times. His intellect, wit, & style was something we were lucky enough to witness once in a lifetime. Goodbye Mr Lougheed -- your accomplishments served us well.
My father Ossie Sheddy, Sr., of Drumeller and a couple of his fellow aldermen went to Edmonton to ask Mr Lougheed for a new dinosaur museum, to showcase the valley's history, & preserve the rich paleontolgical treasures. They hoped for a small museum that would draw visitors to town & help with the tourist trade. Almost immediately, plans were announced for the Royal Tyrrell Museum which is world famous for its work & displays, & which has drawn millions of tourists over the pase 27 years. Louheed was there to open the museum & to praise my dad & the others for their foresight, & he was also there for the 25th anniversary of the museum. Thank you Mr. Lougheed. That was one of Dad's proudest moments.
Condolences to all family and friends. Peter was one heckuva fine gentleman, a shining example of a brilliant Canadian Metis who served the people in a prominent role and definitely made a difference. I salute you as should all others. R.I.P. In the spirit, Terry Lusty
Peter personified Intelligence, Dignity Intellect and a wonderous and effective ability to relate to all. As a newly arrived immigrant to Alberta I was inspired by the man. In the late 1970's and early 1980's his representing this province in discussions with Pierre Trudeau clearly demonstrated that we had two marvelous minds and men who had the interests of Canada at heart.
Thank you Sir and regards and commiserations to your family.
The brief encounters where I met Peter Lougheed at the elevators in Bankers Hall, I will always remember him as a most wonderful and kind person. My sincerest condolences to his family.
Mr. Lougheed's 'star' shone over the Rockies into B.C. His forward-thinking, progressive attitude and his positive manner of conducting himself and of representing Alberta are the major reasons I have called Alberta 'home' for the past 32 years. His actions and policies continue to reverberate through 2012, and beyond, for the benefit of all Albertans and Canadians. Thank you, Peter Lougheed. Warm and supportive thoughts and feelings for Mrs. Lougheed and family. Cheers...
Mr. Lougheed was not a politician; he was a statesman. He was not bound by narrow ideology; he was simply determined to do the right thing for all Albertans. I did not know him personally, but on two occasions we passed by one another at the Jubilee Auditorium and on both occasions he spoke to me as though we had always known one another. He truly represented the very best of Alberta. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
We only seen you 3 times, Phil during school and football in Calgary, and your visit to High Prairie where you met Larry Shaben, our friend, and in Yorkton at the Western Premiers Congerence. You were truly an exciting and humble, futuristic Premier
who did so much for Calgary, Alberta and Canada.
We send our sincerest sympathy to your family. Sir, you will be missed.
Mr Lougheed was the first politician I ever voted for and he was in my Calgary riding. His outstanding leadership laid a strong foundation for those who followed and helped put Alberta front and center on the world stage. To Mrs Lougheed: thank you for sharing him with us. My deepest condolences.
Our sincere condolences to the Peter Lougheed family and the
Don Lougheed family. Peter will be truly missed.
Doug and Barbara Baldwin.
When Peter Lougheed was first elected I was a young mother who was thrilled and excited for this new party to be governing even though all my friends said I was wasting my vote. He became a wonderful strong compassionate leader who made this province what it is today and I thank him for that. He has left our children a wonderful province. When I met him and Jean after a movie at Meadowlark theatre he was so down to earth and chatted with us as we all walked out to our cars. It takes a special person in that kind of position to stay humble and he truly was a humble man. My heart goes out to your family on your loss of a husband, father and grandfather. He is not replaceable but memories will keep him close.

The Delurey Family
We have been reflecting about the time when Peter and his brother Don and the Lougheed family attended the 100th Anniversary of Central United Church in Calgary. They opened the box from the cornerstone which had been laid there by their Grandmother 100 years earlier. It was an exciting historic event and they were all so gracious. Thank you to the family and please accept our condolences.
I was 21 and finally able to cast my vote. And I did for the new Progressive Conservative Party lead by Peter Lougheed. What amazing progress we have seen since in our province and country under his leadership and mentorship. My sincere condolences to all.

I would like to extend my condolences to the Lougheed family. He was in my parents riding and they spoke very highly of him. He was a rare person. I have only put the word "honest" with one politician and they were in reference to Mr. Lougheed. I respected him a great deal. A true statesman.
To his family: May the wonderful memories you have of your husband, father, and grandfather sustain you through the coming days and months.
Thank you for sharing him with the people of Alberta.

Mrs. Lougheed & Family: My sincerest condolences to you on the passing of Mr. Lougheed. I was priviledged to have met him briefly following one of the Olympic Arts Festival events and he was so genuine in his appreciation for all the work the Olympic Arts Festival staff and volunteers had done to help make OCO '88 one of the best Olympics ever. He was a great statesman, visionary and most of all one of the kindest individuals I had ever met. Sincerely, Dianne Van Dyl, High River, Alberta

My sincerest condolences to the family of a true legacy. Mr. Lougheed did so many fantastic things for Alberta and will be remembered for his triumphs. On a personal note Mr. Lougheed was a friend of my parents and was always spoken of so very highly by both of my parents. Truly a great man.
My Condolences to the family and friends. I was luck to have been given the chance to meet Peter at a PC convention years ago Via Gordie Shrake. Peter was a very respectable man and will be missed by many.
Four generations of my family have been blessed by the warm friendship of this wonderful man. All Canadians will continue to benefit from his vision and leadership in defining our role in this great country. Our thoughts are with the Lougheed family.
The Seymour Family
As former oilpatch Albertans, we would like to thank Peter Lougheed for everything he did for the people and the Province of Alberta. His vision took Alberta from an agrarian to an energy-industrial economy, diversifying and improving exponentially Alberta's fortune and future. Mr. Lougheed was always steadfast in defending Alberta's interests. We appreciated and admired him for that. He was an excellent premier, a true statesman and a gentleman.
Our condolences to the Lougheed Family.
To the family: Mr. Lougheed was a great Albertan and Canadian. He made wonderful contributions as Premier of Alberta. May he rest in eternal peace. God bless your family.
The Hubbs Family
I was in grade school when Peter Lougheed took the reins of the premiership. I remember an excitement in Alberta and a growing sense of a culture in transition. He put Alberta firmly on the national stage with his calm, inclusive, fact-based leadership. I can only wish that someone of his stature can come along again. Thanks Premier Lougheed. RIP
Peter was truly "larger than life". His light will continue to shine as the largess of his legacy lives on - in our hearts and in the significant contributions he made..
I feel great sadness about his passing, and
wish comfort for Jeanne and their family - and still treasure Jeanne's empathic letter to me after Ron's political campaign in 1985.
I feel the loss, treasure the memories, and am grateful for Peter's rich, visionary, and compassionate life.
Our sincere condolences to Jeannie and family, for the loss of a loving family man and great leader. I have fond memories of our family Boxing Day gatherings, at Mt. Kidd. Peter was a warm and genuine man. We are grateful to have known him. May he rest in peace.

There really is nothing more I can add. Most respected man I know. Has done the most for a province that any canadian could have done. Will be sadly missed. His legacy will live on if not even stronger now. Thoughts and prayers to the family.
How fortunate our province has been to have had such a wonderful man looking after our beautiful Alberta. His love for family, friends, province and country was truly amazing - we are all so blessed to have been under the exceptional guidance of this great Canadian.
We send our love and prayers to Jeanne and the entire Lougheed family.
We are very grateful for Peter Loughead's life among us, for the leadership he gave to our province and our country---truly a wonderful example.
I had the privileged of meeting Mr. and Mrs. Lougheed at several social and cultural affairs in Calgary. They were always so inviting and accessible to everyone. They were a handsome couple that radiated that western hospitality that is now legendary.
I currently reside in Ontario and was so saddened by the news of his passing. His autographed book is here in my library and I recall at the signing that he and his wife mentioned that they had a daughter named Andrea too. A small notation, but one I always remember.
June 16, 2001 Mr. Lougheed was at the Palliser Hotel when I was with guests at my son's wedding. He was attending a conference (with other political leaders) and took the time to wave and said hi to our guests gathered in the lobby, many had flown in from across Canada and they remembered that occasion as well as the wedding. What a smile!
Christmastime years later at the Nutcracker performance Mr. and Mrs. Lougheed always said hello to everyone, including my little granddaughter. He/they never seemed rushed to get away from anyone.
His wife Jeanne and family have so many comforting memories.
God has welcomed him into eternal life and we are so grateful for his accomplishments and generosity while here with us.
What a wonder full man he was Sorry for your loss.
He did a very good job.Sorry for your loss Allan Poynter
A Legend that will live in our hearts and minds forever.
I met Mr. Lougheed many times over the years; the first was perhaps the most memorable. He was retired from government but we were both speaking on a panel addressing energy issues. I was a member of the Energy Resources Conservation Board at the time and Peter greeted me in a friendly way and obviously knew a fair bit about me. His gracious and inclusive conversation with me and others that day was a lesson in civility and respect for both the occasion and the participants that I never forgot. In subsequent meetings, my positive impression was only strengthened – he was always a gentlemen and always receptive to opinions of others. He embodied the best of what politicians can be. He will be missed.
I think for many Albertans, the loss of Peter Lougheed is like losing a dear member of our family. But none more so than his own family. God Bless the Lougheed family.
I am an RN at Foothills Hospital. One afternoon I was waiting for the elevator on the ground floor. There was only one other person waiting as well. Now, I had seen pictures of Peter Lougheed, but I was feeling very unsure that the man in front of me with the the incredible blue eyes could possibly be him. I was staring at him, and he smiled so warmly at me, that I finally asked "are you Peter Lougheed?" "Why yes I am" he answered and walked toward me and shook my hand. We exchanged just a few words about the neurology area he was touring before the elevator arrived. This was several years ago, and I have never forgotten the feeling of graciousness that emanated from him, and the sense that I had been in the presence of a great man. I was very fortunate indeed to have had even such a brief encounter with him. Peace.
i am very sorry for your lost of husband
So sorry to have of Premier Lougheed's passing. Praying for strength for you all. Peter was a great Progressive Conservative Leader in Canada. He will be missed.
A true Star Thrower, Mr. Lougheed saw beyond the breaking surf. He sought, instead, an adventurous existence amidst the crater lands and ice fields of self-generated ideas. All Albertans and all Canadians are the better for it. Thank you Peter.
I was the friend of Peter's secretary(Margs Hendrickse) who worked for him from 1963-1965 at Lougheed, Ballem and McDill. Not often you can attribute the word kindness to a politician but I will never forget how he and his wife, Jeanne, took 2 young South African girls to dinner at the golf club in Calgary to wish them well - one moving to Vancouver and the other to Toronto. A truly gracious couple. My thoughts and prayers are with the family as they cope with the huge vacuum he would have left behind.
Patricia (Patsy) Bakker
I must say Peter was just one of the great guys I KNOW. jUST INTELLIGENT AND DOWN TO EARTH.
As the young president of the old Progressive Conservative Youth Federation, Peter Lougheed became a great advisor and a cherished mentor. My memories, both of his personal interest and public service, are lasting and in many ways, life changing. My thoughts and prayers are with the Lougheed family at this time.
I had the very great honour of shaking Peter and Jeanne's hands at a Children's Hospital fund raising event. I will cherish that and always remember what a great man he was.
Peter Lougheed was a gentlemen, statesman, and outstanding Canadian. He helped create Alberta as we know it today and the opportunity for all provinces to compete in a world economy. I will always be forever greatful. Thank you for sharing this incredible man with the world.
In Celebration of the life of a Good Man.

Calgarians can thank Peter Lougheed for Fish Creek Park and Kananaskis Country. These amongst the many legacies he left Albertans. I could never understand why he was never appointed Govenor General of Canada. Condolences to his family.
Condolences to the Lougheed Family...
Peer Lougheed accomplished a huge amount of reform and development in his many years in government.
Albertans, and Canadians more generally, are the better for his public service to all.
As a Canadian overseas, I had many opportunities to visit Alberta during his premiership (and afterwards). His efforts as premier moved the province forward confidently and well.
We are all the lesser now for his passing. We should remember his willingness to give up a lucrative career in private enterprise to serve his fellow Albertans.
Thank you, Peter Lougheed.
In 1975, as my husband and I prepared to immigrate to Canada, we had a conversation with an official at the Canadian embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark. He told us if it didn't work out for us the first place we settled, we had to go to Alberta as that was where the future was. We spent three months in Ontario before we headed west to Alberta, and we are still here. Peter Lougheed made Alberta the best place in Canada to live. He personified the word "gentleman." Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
God will have a great man to help him if needed . We can only say Thanks for your time here on earth
He was a great man, he helped us in the early 80's with our mortgage payments when the interest rate was
we miss Him very much, R.I.P. Premier Peter Lougheed
I remember being young when he was running. not old enough to vote. but he represented a new frontier, a new horizon. he achieved his dreams and goal and those of many people in the province. no one else has lived up to that since. Rest in Peace.
I will miss his humour, his competence, his common sense, and his communication skills. We will not see the likes of this man again.
I was just 10 when I volunteered with my Mum and 9 year old sister for your first campaign in a trailer by the Westgate Hotel in Calgary; stuffing envelopes. I remember you coming around our crescent in Calgary on horseback, and your victory party for volunteers with the huge ball room. Also, when my brother died you sent a personal note of condolence to my parents. Thank you. Rest in Peace.
I met Peter several times in the early '70's at The UofA Delta Upsilon Fraternity house, as a member of the student union executive and while working on Don Getty's campaign in 1971. I was sorry to hear of his poor health earlier in the week. Last night (Sept 13/14) I dreamed my wife and I were at some function when Peter walked into the room. I re-introduced myself and presented my wife. I asked him how he was doing and he told me he was fine now and all was good. He looked old but his eyes were bright and he was smiling. He said a pleasant goodbye to me and walked through a door down a brightly lit hallway. I could not believe the early morning news story that reported he had died. I had nothing but admiration for the man and pray for him and his family. My condolences to all his friends and family.
Thank you for all you accomplished for Alberta ... you are one of a kind!!
Mr. Lougheed almost single hand-idly provided Albertans with a voice, purpose and frankly, pride. Without his vision, commitment and leadership, we could not have raised our children and grandchildren in such a safe, prosperous and stable society. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends...rest a assured that he will be rightly numbered amongst the greatest of Canadians, not just Albertans.
God bless sir and thank you.
RIP Mr Lougheed and thank you for all you did for Alberta, because of you me and my family enjoy the fruits of your beliefs and your willingness to stand up to the federal goverments we live in the best Province in Canada.
From 1963 to 1965 I was Peter's secretary at his then law firm Lougheed Ballem & McDill. I was a South African who came to Canada via the UK who happened to land a job working for the most charismatic lawyer in the Province. He and Jeanne were so good to me and the friends I travelled with, one of whom still lives there and is now a Canadian citizen whilst I went on to become an Australian and reside in Melbourne. My kindest and deepest sympathies and thoughts are with Mrs Lougheed and the family.
On behalf of our family to yours, our thoughts and prayers reach out to you during this time.
Rest in peace Mr. Lougheed
He was a wonderful man. An inspiration to us all.
Although I was very young when you were at your most influential, I see the lasting legacy that you have left in Western Canada and I am grateful and humbled by your vision. Rest in Peace!
Yes we have lost a great man, but he has gone on to a much deserved rest and he will live on in our hearts. I wish the family of Mr. Lougheed comfort and peace in their cherished memories of him.
I never knew Mr. Lougheed, personally but
had a great respect for him. My sincere condolences to his family.
Condolences to the Lougheed family. Alberta and Canada have lost an amazing Canadian and a true humanitarian who made this world a better place. Rest in peace Sir.
I am a native Calgarian and I have seen a lot of changes in my 60 years. We were a backward part of the country until Mr. Lougheed went to bat for our province and made it a voice and force in Canada. In hindsight, we started to become modern and left behind the Social Credit way of mixing moralizing with politics. I respect Mr. Lougheed for starting our road to being a forward looking province rather than one that wanted to maintain the status quo. WE need to return to some of his ideas such as a growing Heritage Fund for future Albertans.
Eternal rest grant him, and may perpetual light shine upon him. Blessings to the family. The Rev'd Marc Jerry, Red Deer, Ab
My it has been a long time. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Peter was a great man. I hope to get out to Calgary soon and will look you up. All the best to Jean.
I had the honour of being Peters corperate pilot when he was an advisor to Mannix ltd., fresh out of harvard. This country desparately needs more leaders like him.
My condolences to the Lougheed family. Peter Lougheed was the best Premier of Alberta. Not just in the past 40 years.
He was a statesman of the highest calibre, sadly there are very few in Canada.
Thank you for your vision and for making alberta what it is today. thank you from all the next few generations who will benefit from your vision.
Sincerest condolences to the family and to all albertans. we have lost our leader and our inspiration
I'm just sorry I never shook his hand the one and only time I saw him in public going to a movie with his wife. I would have been breif and said thank you for all you did for our province and a gentleman in the process. I was born just before he was premier and I grew up under his leadership and it's because of a decision he made I was able to find my last name to find my birth family. I truly did admire the man not just because my parents voted for him.
The condolences I have read and heard today echo back the respect he gave to us as a leader.
My sympathies to the family on the loss of your close and respected loved one.
My heart goes out to the Lougheed family. We as Albertans and Canadians have truly lost a great statesman.
Mr Lougheed was a truly great politician. His work will always be remebered by my family as he worked tirelessly for all Albertians and all Canadians. Our sincere condolences to his family on the loss of a great individual.
Thank you Peter Lougheedyou will be

Sincere Sympathy on the loss of Mr. Lougheed.
September 14, 2012. My sincere sympathy to the Lougheed family...what an incredable journey Peter Lougheed took the people & Province of Alberta through.
Many years ago while working as a television cameraman at CFCN-TV I, on many occasions, had the privilege of working with Mr. Lougheed. He was always gracious and engaging. He has left a proud legacy in the Province of Alberta and he will be missed.
I explained to my children this morning that Peter Lougheed was the Alberta Premier for nine years of my childhood. They were very impressed (watching the slideshow on The Herald) with what an amazing man he was and were inspired by his passion to get involved and lead others to make our province a better place. Our hearts go out to the family and friends.
I too lived in Premier Lougheed's riding in 1971, and true to his word, he knocked on my door as well.
He was a special man for a special time in Alberta's history.
My sincere condolences to all of the family.
Mr Lougheed was/is my hero, mentor, and most influetial role model in my life. It was an honour to attend his lectures at U of C as a political science student. I feel a loss knowing that he will not be here to guide future generations of leaders.
I remember when I was a young child not knowing that I was standing amidst such great icons of Canada at Christmas gatherings or events. I was so happy to see Peter and Jeanne at my father's funeral as I know they had since the day I was born been good friends. I also, am sad at his passing and send my deepest sympathy to all of his family. I know my father's wife Elaine McCoy and my mother Phyllis Patterson will wish to pass on and I am sure have already passed on their condolences. An era is ending with the passing of all the history that was set by these brave albertans.
deepest sympathy to all of you. Visionaries are few and far between
A tremendous man who believed a stronger Alberta would build a stronger Canada and then stood his ground to make that happen.
I am Ron Stotyn, PhD. In the 1950's and 60's I lived in what would become Peter Lougheed's Calgary riding for his debut as a politician. I recall his promise to knock on every door in the riding. I believe he carried out that promise. To me that signified his desire to truly represent the people. Later as a news reporter for CJOC Radio and CJOC Lethbridge Television I had several opportunities to interview him as Premier of Alberta. Though I no longer recall the details of my interviews, I do have a strong recollection that he was ready and willing to devote full attention to my questions, giving the fullest possible answers practical given whatever circumstances existed at the time for the issues involved. His comfort level with the media was very good, even when we as media types perhaps were not as generous with him as we might have been. It was valuable for my career to have been involved with Mr. Lougheed in a reporter's relationship. Thanks do not adequately express my debt to him as news-maker. I sincerely hope that the government and people of Alberta find a way to provide a permanent memorial to Peter Lougheed and his service to the province.
Our executive MBA class did a research paper on leadership and we had to choose an influential leader. Our choice fell on Peter Lougheed, most of us are foreigners but through that work we came to learn and appreciate how remarkable a person he was and how remarkable a life he led, a truly inspirational leader regardless of your political leanings. Great men transcend partisanship, make their message resonate with everyone and become the champions of everyone, he was surely a testament to that. I am sure he will be greatly missed, the most sincere condolences to the family.
Our heart felt sadness is with you today Pam and your family. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I hope you find comfort knowing so many people are praying for you and your family
Marianne Kasper,Nick Stevenson and Natalie Stevenson
A true Gentleman and a very smart politician. My sons and I had the fortune to meet Mr. Lougheed at a flames game and as expected a true gentleman. Sorry for your loss
There is no doubt that Canada and Alberta has lost a true statesman who always pursued what was right with vigor, integrity, and grit. We will miss his inspirational wisdom on the Canadian political stage.
Rest in peace Mr Lougheed. And to your family, I hope you find solace and comfort knowing that so many respected and loved this man. A man of great integrity and intelligence - we will miss him greatly
But a Fond Farewell
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God speed.
Anyone who seeks to perform public service could do no better than to follow the example set by Peter Lougheed. A true statesman, and a true giant among men. Condolences to the Lougheed family and friends.
I met Mr. Lougheed while doing my Practicum for my legal assistant diploma. He always took the time to say hello and ask me how I was liking my job. He was a very kind and caring man. My condolences to the Lougheed family.
So sorry to hear of Peter's death I met him once when I applied for a job at a law firm he was a partner at and my grandmother was the first woman oil stocks salesman for his father. She always had only praise for the Lougheed family and in her words young Peter. He was an everyday persons man and never seemed to be too busy or too hurried to talk to a person.
I first got to know Mr. Loudheed when I owned the community newspaper in Cold Lake and he was Premier. He visited the area often and during the NEP days I was caught in the middle of the dispute between Ottawa and Alberta, with frequent calls from senior politicians from both sides. Our newspaper opted to support the provincial government and Mr. Lougheed thanked me personally afterwards and never forgot our decision. I hadn't seen him for 15 years but one day, while walking in Prince's Island Park in Calgary, where I had moved to, he came right up to me and welcomed me to the city. I saw him again this past spring at the annual meeting of one of the companies he was a board member of. Once again, even though we had not seen one another for several years, he remembered me. What a memory! No one was too insignificant in his world. What a great man we have lost!
My condolences to the Lougheed family. As a child growing up in Alberta, I was there when the Tory Party came to power in 1971. the Lougheed legacy will never be forgot
An Alberta Icon! Condolences to the Lougheed Family.
A true statesman. Glad that I came to Alberta a couple of years after he was elected Premier. My family are still in Calgary. Condolences to the Family. Ron Schuler
Peter Lougheed was a great politician, a peoples man and the best premier that Alberta has had. Our condolences to his family.
My condolences. He was/is a great man.
When I moved to Alberta from the East, I joined the Conservative Party of Alberta because of the outstanding work Mr. Laugheed had done, and continued to do, for the Province of Alberta and its people. I wanted to be a part of that. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Lougheed during the PC conventions. My condolences go out to his family for the loss they are dealing with now. He was a great man and will go down in our history books as one of the best. God Bless!
Truly a great Albertan and Canadian. He will forever be remembered.
Very sorry for your loss. I worked in Kananaskis Country in the early 80's and lived there for 16 years, it is a wonderful place that came into being because of Premier Lougheed's vision. He was a wonderful person, Premier and Canadian. We have lost a great one.
My heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Peter Lougheed. A truly remarkable man and an inspiring leader of the people. RIP
I interviewed Peter Lougheed for the first time when I was in school for a social studies assignment. At that time, he was endorsing Ralph Klein for the Calgary South Centre riding, but he took the time to speak to a young student interested in politics. I was fascinated by his witty comments and his undying dedication to politics in all levels including municipal, provincial and federal throughout his time as the Premier of Alberta. My career path led me to more meetings and a final interview in 2007 when he spoke out about policy concerns for oil sands royalties that sparked Alberta's Royalty Review. He was an inspirational leader filled with wisdom and grace in the delivery of his vision. All Albertans have lost a man that established this province as a world leading energy producer. We will forever be grateful for the impact he has had and the legacy that continues to live on for many generations. His loss impacts every Albertan and my thoughts go out to his family in their time of loss.
I was so very sad to hear about the death of Peter Lougheed. He was an incredible man who left an indelible mark on Alberta and Canada. I will always be grateful Peter for transforming Alberta into the best province to live in.
A true stateman who cared about country and people. Leader like him comes once in a lifetime. Prayers for his soul and strengh for family.
I was born in Alberta in 1942, grew up during Premier Lougheeds's time in office and was fortunate to benefit from the province he created. I personally owe him a huge debt of gratitude as does each and every citizen Alberta. May your family be comforted in your loss, be proud of this man, and rejoice in his memory.
Alberta and Canada have lost a great leader.
I can't imagine the loss the Lougheed family must feel. My condolences to his family.
Mr Lougheed was the greatest of Albertans, of Canadians. Know that he inspired greatness in others, greatness of integrity above all. Know that we share your sadness and know that he has a place in our hearts, in the history of our province and our country that will never dim.
My heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr Lougheed. I had the very good fortune of meeting him twice. As a born and raised Albertan it makes me proud to have lived through his time as Premier of Alberta. He was a great Canadian. He will be missed.
My condolences to the Lougheed family. He is a true Canadian and even know I was not even born when he served as PM he has left a legacy no one will forget.
Our deepest sympathies to the family of Peter Lougheed who stood tallest in the saddle of premiers of Canada. He shaped so much of the powerhouse that Alberta is today.. A calgarian and dedicated canadian, has our deepest respect and admiration. There are blue shadows on the trail. R.I.P. Former Calgarians June and Gordon Schaeffer. Kelowna B.C.
As a child growing up in Alberta I have always considered myself a product of legacy of Peter and Jeanne Lougheed. Through their attention and support the arts, science, education and rational discourse were the order of the day. Not everything he did was a success but he left this province in better shape than he found it. My decision to pursue a career in the arts is because of the opportunities he created.
I was young when Mr. Lougheed became premier, and have heard about his many achievements over the years, of which there are many - impressive! We have lost a true Canadian icon. My condolences to the family. Monique McPherson, Calgary
What a wonderful legacy he has left. Our deepest condolences to the Lougheed family for your loss. May you take comfort in the prayers and support of those around you - and from so many of us around the country.
Such a great Man. He did so much for this province. He will be missed. Our sincere condolences to the Lougheed family.
We pray that the fondest of memories will sustain you in this time of sorrow
One of the few truly inspiring Canadians.
Canada has lost a great statesman and leader, the personal loss to Peters family will be more difficult to bear. You will be remembered in my prayers and thoughts.
On behalf of the staff and Board of Directors at EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts, we would like to express deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the Honourable Peter Lougheed, Alberta's former Premier and visionary champion. We have lost a truly exceptional man and consummate statesman.
During his term as Premier, Mr. Lougheed was a proud trailblazer for arts and culture in Alberta. It was under his leadership as Premier that the Alberta Ministry of Culture was founded in 1974, and following his retirement from political life, Mr. Lougheed and his wife Jeanne remained passionate philanthropists and community leaders who continued to provide invaluable support to many charitable and community-focused organizations and initiatives across the province.
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of this remarkable Canadian who led by example and with the highest standard of integrity. Yet, we take some solace in the knowledge that his legacy will endure through the organizations and institutions that he created and supported, all of which continue to generate great benefits for the people of Alberta and Canada.
I moved to Alberta in 1977 because of the leader Mr. Lougheed was. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.
You will be missed more than any of us can understand, may your wonderful legacy remain for us and future generations.
Thank You and God Bless

Peter Lougheed was one of the greatest men I ever knew, and always remembered my name when we saw each other. It was a great Honor to have known him. May he rest in peace, and God bless his family.
I work in an elementary school in Beddington Heights and we have the most amazing (big) gymnasium. I have heard it referred to as a 'Lougheed Gym', because of his vision and funding. Just wanted your family to know that everyday, hundreds of children enjoy themselves, play together and learn in this wonderful space.
Thank you Sir.
Deepest Sympathy to the family. Mr Lougheed was our lawyer back in 1962.I remember court was in Drumheller & he rode with us in the back seat of a volkswagen..... He barely fit.....
Marlene... Brooks AB
My deepest condolences for Mr. Lougheed's family. Alberta has lost an exemplary leader who changed our province's history. Godspeed.

You will forever live in the hearts of all the lives you touched. May God bless your family and give them strength in this time of sorrow and may you rest in peace. What you stood for and all you've done will never be forgotten.
I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Lougheed when he received an honorary degree from the University of Toronto in 1997. Upon being conferred with my degree from the Dean, I approached Mr. Lougheed, who was sitting nearby, and told him that it was my honour, as a fellow Albertan, to meet him. He then grasped my hand with both of his, shook it wildly and gave me a proud shout of encouragement. I have never missed the Province of my rearing as much as I did in that moment. Thank you Mr. Lougheed, from a fellow Albertan.
By far, the best, he will be sorly missed.
Deepest sympathy to Lougheed family.
I was born in Calgary in 1987 and have always heard words of kindness and reverence towards Peter and what he did for Albertan's.
My family would like to extend our condolences to Mr. Lougheeds' family. He was a great man and will be sorely missed.
My condolences to Jeanne and the family for the loss of such a great man. He will truly be missed by many.
If it wasn't for Mr. Lougheed we wouldn't have the most dynamically diversified province in which to flourish. I thank him for taking this magnificent province to the level it is today while still honouring the strong heritage from which it began.
I hope your family finds peace in knowing so many people truly appreciated this honourable man.
My heart goes out to you.
Mr Peter Lougheed was a great politician and family man sincere condolences to his family for their loss
Dear Jean and family. I am much sorrowed by the news of Peter's death. I was so looking forward to getting together with him and the survivors of our class of '52 next week in Edmonton but it is not to be. Peter was a great president of the Students' Union and an even better premier of the province, especially when he took on the gang of four, Quebec variety, over who owns our natural resources. He was a brave and principled man and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Jeanne Lougheed and Family:
Mr. Lougheed was and will always be admired for his leadership, his kind heart with a warm smile that made a difference in so many lives. We will remember. May the many happy memories that was shared be of comfort to you and family. Bill and Barbara Letendre and family.

You did amazing things for all us Albertans and it will never go without credit to one of the greatest leaders we have ever had. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.
Mr. Lougheed was a special person with character, vision, dignity and personable. Alberta and the Progressive Conservative Party was molded to a dynamic province and political party through Mr.Lougheed's efforts. Albertan's have a lot to be proud of and should cherish the fact that they had such a mindful and caring leader. We are honored for his service to the community, province and country and express our sincere best wishes to the Lougheed family and friends. Thank you for sharing him with the people.

Peter & Jeanne were frequent visitors to my gallery in Calgary. (Canadian Art Gallery)
They were sincerely interested in art and artists and always had a positive word, I enjoyed their visits, always feeling it was with sincerity and not for show. His legacy of the Alberta Art Foundation lives on of course. HIs concern and interest in culture meant a lot to me. Rest in Peace, and may his family find solace in all of the great things he did for Alberta, the West and Canada.
I met Premier Lougheed when I was a little girl as he was walking in Calgary, what a chance meeting. In a matter of 20 seconds, this man left an impression, hope and vision for what my future would/could hold for me. My deepest sympathies to his wife and children, their families. May God have a gentle hand on your shoulders as you journey through this new path in life. My sympathies to my home province - he truly was a great man.

That's what a well-lived life looks like. My heart goes out to the family at this most difficult time. Alberta needs more men and women who understood Mr Lougheed's vision.
It was a great privilege to have known Peter, worked with him, and benefitted from his leadership, warmth and charm. Across provincial and national boundaries, Peter forged a legion of supporters and followers than will be one of his most enduring legacies.
Saddened by this news. Sending condolences to his wife, Jeanne and to his family. A true statesman of Alberta and Canada. I deeply respected his work as a leader and politician.
As well as being a great leader, Premier Lougheed was a gentleman. I met him twice - as a very junior member of the party's advertising agency. He treated me like everyone else the first time, and remembered my name the second. It was an honour to have met him, and to have grown up in the province under his leadership.
The Greatest Premier in all of Canada who stood up for the people. May your memory be Eternal. Rest in Peace Mr. Lougheed.
God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
I met Peter on a plane to Boston.obviously I recognized him, while I was a stranger. We talked briefly before departing where he quickly turned the conversation to myself. A few moments in time I will remember his graciousness, acceptance, ans curiosity.
Rest well Mr. Lougheed.
He moved Alberta towards the future!
My heartfelt condolences to the family. I consider mysef lucky because I spent a couple hours one day on an airplane sitting right beside Mr. Laugheed. He was bery gracious and kind. I learned much that day.

We were so fortunate to have the guidance of Mr Lougheed during those formitable years. I look back on them and was so proud to be an Albertan. My condolences to a great family that must have a heavy heart. God bless.
As an Albertan temporarily working in Nova Scotia I get a true understanding of the amazing things Mr. Lougheed did to make Alberta such a great province. His vision is what made our Alberta the place it is today, a leader in the country and a strong province rather than a weak one so dependent on the federal government.
Thank you for all you did, and condolences to the entire Lougheed family.
My deepest condolences to the Lougheed family. Alberta and Canada has lost a great man. I remember listening to Peter on the radio as a young boy in the early 60's and thinking he was a great person.

A man of intergity and vision, a role model for all, thanks for making Canada a better place ... Carol Metz Murray
I have to say that I sat down and cried today when I found out that you had passed. The only consolation in all of this, is knowing you will have eternal happiness, as you look down and smile upon your children, your grandchildren, and just walk with your wife everyday. I have always said this, and i believe it with all of my heart...if the family of Mr. Lougheed think they see him out of the corner of their eye...they did... it's his spirit walking with his family and letting him know that he is and always will be with them (I still see my Grandparents walking with me, and it's been 11 years). God bless our family, and please know that there are a whole bunch of people who love him!
Thank You Mr. Peter Lougheed for all you did for us,you cared for all your fellow Albertans and you were a true Canadian,I am sure you will be in the history books for my grand daughter (she is 2) to read about :)
Truly a great man who will be missed by all who knew him, in politics and in life.
He was Alberta's determined visionary. He had the foresight, integrity and strength of character to put the interests of the people who elected him first. He substantiated and secured Alberta's place in a strong, united Canada. Thank you and Godspeed Mr. Lougheed.

I had the priviledge of meeting Mr. Laugheed on a few occasions and I felt him to be a kind, polite, sincere, honest and friendly man. I met him once in a parkade in Calgary and he was a wonderful man that was able to talk to anyone. He was very impressive. He was a great man and he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May they be comforted, as they mourn a great statesman, politician, grandfather, father and husband and friend.
Thank you for lending us your husband, father, and grandfather for those 20 wonderful years, as we all came of age together. Alberta, and Canada, were indeed fortunate that Peter Lougheed was there to assert our rights, responsibilities, duties and privileges.
I had the privilege of sharing a Red Arrow bus ride to Edmonton with Mr. And Mrs. Lougheed. We spoke almost the entire ride and I was overwhelmed by his graciousness and genuine interest in what I did as an Arts Educator- borh of them thanking me and my colleagues for our dedication and hard work. My heart goes out to Mrs. Lougheed and their chikdren. He was like a Father to all Albertans.
I was 15 years old in the first campaign and was presented with a legislative pin from Premier Lougheed after the election. That pin is still a treasured item, and symbolizes the hope - and service - that he brought to our province. Thank you for your many years of dedicated public service, and showing us that there still is statesmanship and service and dignity in the political arena. My condolences to the family on losing a cherished family member.
Peter Lougheed was an amazing man and good friend of my dad's who went to Harvard with him...he will be sorely missed by all.
Mr. Lougheed was a Canadian of great substance. He was a person all Albertans can be rightly proud of.

You we're a good man Peter and an outstanding politician. You will be missed by many. God rest your soul. My condolences to the Lougheed family in this time of loss.
A thoughtful leader, an articulate statesman, a creative thinker, an elegant man. So very few in our political realm stand up to comparison. Mr. Lougheed's values, decency and demeanour should be the textbook for those seeking, and even now serving, office.
A true Leader.
Remember when the "lights went out" in Albera in the 1980's responding to the National Energy Programme.
Peter stood up to the Federal Government on our behalf.
His wisdom will be greatly missed,
Peter Lougheed made me, a young Albertan at the time, care about politics and engendered a sense of pride in being an Albertan.
Mr. Lougheed was a great Albertan and a great Canadian. He will always be remembered as a staunch supporter of Albertans. For this I am truly grateful. We owe what we have in this great Province to him. You will forever be one of the Greatest Canadians that ever lived. Thank you for all that you gave...RIP
A true gentleman and inspiration to all Canadians

A worthy adversary that served with dignity and uncompromising principles on behalf of all Albertans.

Most sincere sympathies on the loss of your father, grandfather, husband... He changed Alberta forever, and was the most influential public person I knew of during my formative years. His wisdom and passion will be missed, but his legacy will remain.
A man of vision, Mr. Lougheed brought Alberta into the modern political arena. We owe him a great deal. A gentleman, a leader, a fighter, a son, a father, a husband and, most of all, an Albertan, he modelled the best a person can be. Rest in peace. Thank you.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Mr. Lougheed's passing. We all know well, his exceptional qualities and ability to guide Alberta and indeed, our nation. His kindness, warmth and unique ability to freely give to society will be greatly missed. His larger than life persona make him one of Canada's finest citizens.

Canada owes Peter a huge debt.He will be missed
My sincere condolences on your loss. Peter Lougheed was truly one-of-a-kind and will be missed.
There is a human bond that connects us all. It may be like a delicate thread, but in special times it becomes like a line of steel that helps to bind us, one to another. This strand makes our sorrows more bearable, and in the long run that is what really matters. Peter Lougheed will be missed by all, especially family and friends, but the thread of our human bonds will always keep some part of him with us. It is my hope that it will be an added source of comfort to you at this time of grief to know that others care. Sometimes there are no words that can reveal the feelings of the heart, but please accept my deepest thoughts of you during this time. God bless you and may you find comfort in your fondest memories.
I'd say he bestrode the province like a Colossus -- but he was such a warm, modest, engaging, generous, thoughtful, principled gentleman, that the emblem sells him short. Our warmest condolences to the family he loved and served --- Jeannie, their kids, Alberta.
A worthy adversary that served with dignity and uncompromising principles on behalf of all Albertans.
He showed me that you should stand up for what you believe in. First time I realized what Alberta was and what it was to be an albertan. He stood up to the power base in the east and did not bend. A lesser man would have folded.
Mr Lougheed will be remembered as true Canadaian who put the interest of our country !st ..A great Lost for Canada..Prayers of care-respect from Quebec
