We are saddened to announce the passing of Jim Fleming, oilman, rancher and horseman. Jim passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Jim had a long career in the oilfield, working with Macobar Mud, Epsco Pipe, Sarcee Drilling, and had a consulting business. He had a successful twenty year partnership (1974-1994) with his brother Harold, establishing Reef Mud. Jim was a Calgary Stampede Lifetime Volunteer and in 1988, was head of VIP transportation for the Winter Olympics. In 1979, he moved his family to DeWinton and began a lifetime of breeding and showing Quarter Horses and founded Image Quarter Horses. Jim was the president and director of the Alberta Quarter Horse Association for many years and Lifetime Director of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was a founding member of the Team Cattle Penning Association of Alberta. Even when he could no longer ride on a team with his family, he enjoyed watching them compete. Jim was very proud of his grandchildren and all of their many accomplishments in their young lives. Jim leaves to mourn, his wife, Lynn, daughter Jennifer Robson (Kurt), and his two grandchildren, Josie and Tate. He is also survived by his brother Harold (Sherry) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Greg, of whom he was extremely proud. In accordance with Jim's wishes, a small Celebration of Life will be held privately.
