I didn't know of Ruth's passing, and I'm so sad tonight. I took a diagnostic reading class with Ruth at the U of A and she was just such a stellar professor. I then worked with Ruth and Maureen during the pilot work in Family Literacy with Prospects. What a special person, educator and mentor Ruth was. She was funny, insightful and she could cut through the fog on many issues. I last saw Ruth as I headed to Harvard Graduate School of Education--she wrote such a lovely letter of recommendation for me. I'll never forget Ruth--she was such an influence on me as a person and educator.

Dear Mr. Hayden, Damian & Alix. I was so sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. Seems like yesterday we all lived in Sherwood Park and all the great times that we had. My Mom loved Ruth. Ruth and Mom shared the passion of learning and teaching and loved their kids. Although she endured much in 1987, she would always worry about how we (Dad & I) were doing, whenever I saw her. She had a huge heart. May you know I think of your family often and you are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy Mac, Damien, and Alix, on the passing of your wife and mother. I remember fondly her unseen presence supervising teenaged get-togethers at your home many years ago. I feel blessed to have worked with Ruth as she mentored my independent studies at the U of A. She taught me many strategies about working and reading with children that I continue to use today. Mostly, I remember her passion for education and learning. My prayers are with you. God Bless.

Dear Mac, Damien, Alix
So sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. Nothing prepares you for a time like this. Ruth touched many of us as a pillar of support to our Catholic community of school and church. I know to you she was your caring, loving, nuturing wife, mother and grandmother. She will continue to be -each twinkle of a star will mirror the twinkle of her wit. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you, Pat Walsh and family

Our sincere condolences to Mac, Damien, Alix and their families on the loss of a great wife and mother. We and our children much appreciated her friendship when we first moved to Sherwood Park - your home became their second home. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
