On May 4th, 2014 Anthony Freda was called home at the age of 83. He was born the fourth of five siblings on May 18, 1930 in Pesche, Italy to Nicola and Anna Freda. In 1948 at the age of eighteen Tony came to Canon City where he lived with his Uncle Rocco and Aunt Julia Freda and attended the Abbey School. Tony was proud of his military service. He was in active duty with the US Army, stationed in Berlin, Germany in a military police unit. Tony continued his military service with the National Guard receiving an honorable discharge in 1962. On August 3rd, 1957, he and Patricia Anne Vinson were married at St. Michael Church in Canon City. They were blessed with three daughters: Shannon (Nigel) Couch of Oxfordshire, England, Tamara (Rob Danielson) Johnston of Denver, CO, and Tricia Schatz, of Sedona, AZ. Pat and Tony were also blessed with six grandchildren: Amanda and Elyse Couch, Brian and Alexa Johnston, and Chloe and Hunter Schatz. Tony is also survived by his sisters Adelia Capone, Mafalda Petrecca, and Yolanda Caroselli, and numerous nieces and nephews all of Isernia, Italy. Tony's first job was working at the Broadmoor Hotel in the dry cleaning plant. Subsequently, he embarked on a twenty year career at Fort Carson where he managed the Quarter Master laundry and dry cleaning plant. Over this time he received many awards for excellence, and in particular, making the plant profitable. He was especially proud of this accomplishment! Upon retirement, Tony realized the fulfillment of his life-long dream of owning his own business. He bought a little coin-op and turned it into a full-service laundry and dry cleaning business, including hat cleaning, formal wear rental, and more. Throughout thirty-five years Tony was often the first to welcome many newcomers to Canon City who arrived before their washing machines. He also made many friends along the way. Tony was a lifelong member of the VFW, American Legion, and Florence Elks Club. Tony was also a fantastic cook. He was famous among his friends and family for his spaghetti and meatballs, but his real passion was dancing. Tony was a loyal friend, loving father, grandfather and devoted husband. His cheery smile and happy sense of humor will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, Friday May 9th at St. Michael Catholic Church in Canon City, with military honors after the mass with a luncheon to follow in the St. Michael School gym. In lieu of flowers, Tony's family requests that contributions be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Fremont County P.O. Box 1537 Canon City, CO 81215, Cañon Literacy Center, Inc., P.O. Box 1793, Canon City, CO 81215, or Heart of Colorado Casa of Canon City PO Box 183, Canon City, CO 81215.

So sorry I am unable to be there but circumstances beyond my control
make it impossible. Tony was
a wonderful, caring, loving and compassionate man who welcomed me with open arms to his family. My prayers and thoughts are with you Patsy and all his family during these very difficult days ahead. I love you all.

I got to know Tony through the Cleaning business he owned for many years... Without fail, he would always engage me in conversations that usually ended with us both laughing... Above all, he was proud of his daughters...he would always give me an "update" about what they were doing... To his family, my sincere condolences.
