On this Christmas Day, we remember our beloved wife and mother. We miss you very much and wish you were still with us , but we also rest in the confidence of the promise inherent in the birth of our Lord that all of us--Max, James, David, and John--will be with you in heaven one day. Merry Christmas, Cynthia! Merry Christmas, Mom!

Today is the third Mother's Day since Mom passed away. I am filled with many, many poignant memories of Mom and how she raised my brothers and me, how she loved and supported Dad, and how they introduced us to a wide and sometimes scary world. My mom was a sweet lady but no pushover. And those who knew my mom knew her hearty, heartfelt laugh. It was infectious and full of joy.

One memory I have on this day is one that is connected with my first clear contact with death. We had a turtle named Albert that my dad got from somebody. It was sickly when we got it, but we nursed it to health. He loved having his neck stroked, loved basking under a lamp in his little turtle pond, and loved eating lettuce out of our hand. If turtles could be cool, this turtle was cool. One day, while I was in upper elementary school, my mom left him outside in the planter too long and poor Albert died. I know my mom felt awful about that, and she broke the news to me. I cried and cried (yes, over a turtle), but Mom had a way of comforting me and helped me deal with what was to me a tragic day. We buried him in a box by our back fence. Since that day, I have had to deal with more serious deaths, more specifically with the death of my wife Shelley, and she was there again for me during that desperately trying time, helping me through that and the days and years to follow.

And now she has been gone for these few years. No longer can I rely on her sage advice on this earth. But she, through her life, has shown me what she would think, do, and say. So, in a way, I still rely on her. And what a glorious day it will be when I see her again face to face!

I love you, Mom.

Dear Uncle Max & family,
Can't imagine how hard it is for you all, especially Uncle Max. Fifty seven years is so many years to have someone and rely on them for oh so many things, like talking about your day, trying to figure a problem out together and just talking and laughing about the good ole days.
Aunt Cynthia was a special lady and was loved so much by so many. Will always hear her special, unique and grand laugh and it was only one gift of God's to her so that we can hear it in our heads always till we hear her laughing in Heaven again one day.
It's so hard for us here, but knowing she is in God's presents gives me comfort knowing she is so very happy and never been more alive than she is now.
Happy Mother's Day Aunt Cynthia, coming up.You were the best Mother & Grandmother! I know this because all of your children and grandchildren are truly blessed with the love of Jesus!!
Miss you and will always love you!
Your Niece,
Deborah
