Aunt Joan...

I'm so thankful for so many great memories
that we've collected all three at such a young age.
For with each memory we chose to never forget,
comes a new piece to our stories, each adding another page.

It seems like only yesterday
we paned for gold near our camp by the creek.
Or impatiently waited till night fell,
to begin an outdoor game of hide-and-go seek.

How I often think back to each Apple Day,
when we sold pumpkins while we watched the parade.
So much pride we all took in the pumpkins we grew,
and so much effort put into the signs we displayed.

Now where to begin about Christmas,
how about all her outdoor lights that made the town glow.
Or maybe the anal gingerbread houses we built,
held together by frosting pretending to be snow.

Every summer you planted flowers
by the pond, per Grandma's simple yearly wish.
I remember one time when I helped you out,
and you couldn't help but start laughing, when i fell into the pond and startled the fish.

I already miss all our long talks in your basement,
about the women that we aspire to be.
You never kept a secret how proud you were to be our Aunty,
but always made clear the positive changes in us you expected to see.

You've always been the glue that still holds us girls together.
We all feel lost and unsure of what's next for us to do.
Knowing you were here to listen as we cried brought us comfort,
and I truly believe that you're still up there listening,
so please send us down some sort of loving clue.

Please know that all you taught us
will never be forgotten.
Our eyes are open to this world
both awful times, as well as some that are nice.
We miss you Aunt Joan, but know
we will one day see you again.
So till then, rest peacefully in Paradise!

This a poem written for my Aunt Joan, from her nephew D'Shawn.

We all loved the life you lived, think back on all the blessings your life did give, though now your shining down, I thank God once, life to you He did give.

Because of you I live, live and continue on, wanted to give up when I heard the words you were gone, know through me you will live on, my promise to you will keep me from wrong, we all hold you in our hearts knowing you are at peace, at peace where you belong

One day it won't be long, we will all meet you at those gates, bright eyed and bushy tailed, a reunion with clean slates, wish it were today though I must wait, always on time never too late, for you I will press through, continue on and wait.
