Dorothy Carpenter Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Mae Carpenter
“Together Again”
97, of Massillon, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, with her daughter by her side. She was born on August 29, 1920 in Canton to the late Emma (Haas) and Hiram Infield. Dorothy "Dot" as she was fondly called, lived in Canton her entire life. During her early years, she volunteered as a candy striper at Mercy Medical Center and worked at Kresge's and The Timken Company. Dot devoted her life to her husband and children, retiring from The Timken Company to become a homemaker and raise her family. She was always there to care for her husband, children and grandchildren. Dot was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple for nearly 70 years. She demonstrated her love for the Lord and children by being a Sunday School teacher there for 47 years. She taught most of those years in the Toddler's II Department. Despite her declining vision due to macular degeneration, she managed to read her Bible every day for as long as she was able. Dot was a wonderful cook and she shared her meals with the homeless that used to knock on her door. She never turned anyone away. She also dearly loved animals and had taken care of many stray cats that showed up on her doorstep. Dot was generous, kind, compassionate and thoughtful and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard. They were married for 60 years at the time of his passing on Nov. 26, 2010. Also preceding her in death are her sisters, Carrie Brandt and Emma Infield; brothers, Glenn and Donald Infield and Harold and Raymond Brandt. She is survived by her son, Will Carpenter Jr. of North Canton; daughter Renee (Corey) Dawson of Massillon; granddaughter, Courtney (Ben) Leonhardt of Indiana; grandson, Nicholas (Megan) Long of Minnesota; great grandchildren, Connor and Emersyn Long and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11a.m. at the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel, with the Rev. Jake Tovissi officiating. Burial will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6-8pm and prior to the service from 10-11am on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made, in her name, to the Canton Baptist Temple. Please visit www.reedfuneralhome.com to send condolences.
