Lillian Musial

When I was 13, I lived in St Louis and was standing outside of the stadium one evening around 1 hour before the game was scheduled to begin. Mrs. Musial was walking to the stadium and noticed me standing by the door. She asked me if I was lost. I answered "no" that I was just standing around, with less than $1.00 in my hand, hoping to purchase someone's unwanted ticket. Mrs. Musial told me it was my lucky day and that she knew a few people around "the place" and had an extra ticket because her son could not make it to the game. She invited me in as her guest, complete with popcorn and soda. She asked me to call her "Lil" and I had no idea who she was until after the game when she told me she wanted me to meet someone. We stayed around until one of the players signed autographs for EVERY fan present (all the other players had by this time left the stadium) , then she introduced me to her husband! Stan Musial gave me a signed ball, which I asked Mrs. Musial to sign as well. I still have the ball...and the memories. Your actions served as an inspiration to me, Mrs. Musial, and I will never forget your generosity and simple kindness. My sincere condolences to her son, Dick, and to her many family member and friends. (Dick, thanks for being busy that night!)

With sincere sympathy to the Musial family. My father had the honor of meeting the Musials at breakfast in Florida one year, and Stan kindly offered autographed cards for his grandchildren. They are treasured keepsakes to this day, and it was a thrill for my dad to meet such a lovely, gracious couple - such a fine lady and gentleman. Rest assured you remain in the hearts and prayers of many, today and in the days ahead.

Such a nice person, may you rest in peace. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Stan and all family members and friends. I used to see her when I worked at the M & B restaurant on Oakland Ave in the early 70's. Always a kind word.
