I am sorry for your loss. May the God of comfort surround you with his tender mercy during this sad time. (2 Cor 1:2&3)

RIP Manfred. I first me Manfred in 1994 in Stuttgart and he was so friendly, kind, and caring. He had such a great sense of humor and we joked much about our mutual Swabish heritage. I will never forget his joke about our Grand Canyon. Over the years, Manfred and I exchanged birthday and Christmas cards as he never forgot his friends. I had a distant relative he lived with the Rommel family when Manfred was growing up. My most memorable moment was the day Manfred took me to Herlingen, a surburb of Ulm, to visit his father's grave. Thank you, Manfred, for being a good friend and for sharing your kindness and hospitality with an American friend. I want to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to Manfred's family.

A kind and gentle man has died. He served his city with courage and honor. I've witnessed US soldiers waiting to shake the hand of Germany's great WWII Commander.

I actually had the chance to meet Mayor Rommel as a soldier, during his "Meet the Mayor" program for incoming soldiers to the Stuttgart area, I will forever be grateful for the historical knowledge he provided to me personally. R.I.P Sir.

Mayor Rommel was kind enough to host lunches and tours for newly arrived American soldiers and their families in Stuttgart. In the late 1980s, my wife and I attended one such event, and had the honor of his dining at our table. An honest-to-goodness friend to America and Americans. Our deepest condolences to his family and to the people of Stuttgart.
