Feels like a hole has been left here on planet earth. Gregory Macguire's description of his last day with Sendak is extraordinary. My husband and I share many things, not the least is that Sendak's Nutshell Library (Pierre said, "I don't care!") was a huge part of our childhoods.

You have been a part of our family since our son was born - and he is now 37 years old. He now has two sons who love your books and who, I know, will pass your stories onto their children. Thank you for being part of our family and please know you will forever remain in our hearts. God bless you and may you rest in peace.

To the Sendak family, may your memories help you through this difficult time and know that you have the love and support of the millions of us who loved him.

Thank you for sharing him with us.

With our deepest sympathy,
The Brunetti Family

"Where The Wild Things Are" was my favorite book as a child. I now read it to my nieces, who love it. Such talent will be missed.

I remember Maurice Sendak, the class artist at Lafayette High School (1944-46). He was quiet, modest, unassuming. I am awed by the mystery of genial creativity that flowed from him in subsequent years. Maurice's oeuvre is a gift to the world for all time.

Even now as an adult, I never could get that book out of my mind. What a creative and upbuilding heart Maurice had. He will truly never be forgotten. Very soon, God will resurrect him to enjoy the life he was meant to live; human perfection on a beautiful paradise earth forever.

His warmth towards others and his creativity will be a lasting legacy for all.
