Willard Shaffer Obituary
83, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, following a 2 1/2 year battle with Mesothelioma. He was born in Parsons, W. Va. on Oct. 22, 1932 and resided in the Massillon area most of his life. He retired from Republic Steel after 40 years of service and was a U S Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, loved his lawn work, gardening and his family. Willard was a charter member of Anchor Baptist Church where he served faithfully.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Freeman and brother Denver Shaffer. He is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Kathryn Shaffer; his son , Stan (Deanna) Shaffer: daughter, Myra (Mike) Groff: grandchildren, Courtney (Ryan) Griffiths, Natalie Groff, Summer Shaffer, Cory Groff and Zachary Shaffer.
Funeral Service SATURDAY, Feb. 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 East Cherry St. (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) with Pastor Dan Grine officiating. Friends may call FRIDAY 6 p.m. to 8 p,m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial Canal Fulton Cemetery.

Aunt Kathryn, Stanley, & Myra,
Our deepest sympathy to you & the family. Uncle Willard was a sweet and gentle man and he loved the Lord. We know he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We are so sorry we couldn't be there, but know we are thinking of you all in this time of sorrow. Rest in peace Uncle Willard, until we meet again.

I am so sorry for your loss. It's really our church family's loss as well. Even last Sunday as sick as he was, he wanted to come to church.
What a kind, sweet man. I will miss him so much. But we will see him in Heaven. My prayers are certainly with you. Much love.

I remember Willard being a friend of my Dad, Elden Gregory. Have many fond memories of him, Kathryn, and Myra going fishing and camping about every weekend growing up, and fishing of an evenings at Canal Fulton locks. He was a nice person. Prayers for Kathryn, Stanley, and Myra and all the Grandkids.
