I graduated from high school a semester early and my Mom (Carol Law, Mark's sister) decided to send me to Colorado to get me out of her hair. I stayed with Uncle Mark and the kids for about a month. Uncle Mark took me sking a couple times. The first trip was to Vail, it was so beautiful. Mark was a good skier and he tried like heck to teach me, but it was useless. I ended up taking lessons in the afternoon, but that did really work either. The bottom line - I suck at skiing. In the evening we went out to dinner and I got to order my 1st drink at a bar. At that time you could drink at 18 in a few states. I have great memories of Uncle Mark and the Hurley family. I will miss his gentle ways - he was a sweet man.

Dear Mark Hurley Family,

My most vivid memory of my Uncle Mark is from 1987, when my husband Jim (boyfriend at the time) and I came to Evergreen for a visit and Mark took us to the Little Bear Bar to listen to some music. The Little Bear was an experience of its own, but experiencing it with Uncle Mark made it even more memorable. He knew a lot of people in Evergreen and it seemed like a lot of them were in the Little Bear that Sunday afternoon, which made it an interesting day. I also remember his visits to California when I was a kid, and seeing him in Chillecothe in the summers and he always loved to joke and tease all of us. He always sent us a Christmas card and cut-outs from newspaper articles that he thought we would find interesting (my mom, Carol, does that also, it must be a Hurley thing.) I will remember him as a very kind man, who loved to talk about his children and enjoyed a good conversation. He will be missed.

This photo taken Chillicothe, OH July 4, 1996. We were back from CO and CA for CHS all-class reunion and to visit our sisters, Doris and Regina. Mark was perfectly willing to wear a lady hat if that's all there was to protect him from the bright Ohio sun. Mark had many Ohio friends and seldom had the time to visit all of them. He was a unique and noble man, with a wry sense of humor. I am proud to have had him as a brother.

My condolences to all the Hurley family especially Keith and Regina. Bob Houser just called and told me of Mark's passing. It seems like just yesterday we were in the driveway playing basket ball and when Mark was there noone else could keep up.

To the Hurley Family:
So sorry to hear of the death of Mark Hurley. I am an old friend of Carol Law, Mark's sister in Encinitas, CA. Over the years, she spoke fondly of Mark many times, and I know he will be deeply missed. I know the Hurley Family has strong family ties with each other, and I extend my deepest condolences to all of them.
