F. Slye Obituary



On January 15, 2016, Freeman Nelson Slye, age 73, of Davidsonville, MD, passed away at George Washington University Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary (nee Peal) Slye; two sons: David Taylor Slye, his wife Stephanie, and grandchildren Reid, Harrison, and Josephine, of St. Joseph, MI; and Andrew Nelson Slye, his wife Natalie, and her son, Nathan, of Federalsburg, MD; his sister Jennie Smith, her husband, James, of Oakland, MD; and brother Taylor Slye, his wife, Kathy, of Mocksville, NC. Nelson was born August 27, 1942, in Statesville, NC, the son of Mary Nelson and Freeman Slye. He spent his childhood in Takoma Park, MD, and graduated with a degree in Business from Benjamin Franklin University (George Washington University) in 1962. He had over 40 years of experience in executive level finance positions with government contracting and communications companies. He enjoyed traveling, researching family genealogy, and woodworking. Nelson was devoted to his family. He was a most generous, kind, and loving husband and father with a wonderful sense of humor. A Celebration of Nelson's life will be held April 16, 2016, at 4:00 PM at the Harbor Hills Yacht Club, 1 Carson Cove, Davidsonville, MD. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude's Hospital for Children, or a charity of your choice.
