Shirley J. Wittlinger September 14, 1935 - August 29, 2013 Shirley J. Wittlinger, age 77, of Drifting, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College after an extended period of illness. Born September 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Margaret Rader Josephson. Mrs. Wittlinger graduated from the former Cooper Township High School in 1953. She was a secretary for many years and had retired from both Penn State University and Cooper Township. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanse. She enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with loved ones. She is survived by her beloved son, Ward Wittlinger and wife Vicki, of Drifting; one sister, Margaret Burris of Phillipsburg, and her beloved grandson, Max, of Drifting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Charles, and one sister, Joan. Funeral service for Mrs. Wittlinger will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 4 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lanse with the Rev. Matthew Finney officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. in the church. Burial will be in Grassflat-Lanse Lutheran Cemetery in Grassflat. In lieu of flowers, the familiy suggests memorial contributions be made to: West Branch Band, c/o West Branch School, 444 Allport Cutoff, Morrisdale, PA 16858. Johnson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Wittlinger.

Ward, You were still young when your Mom worked in Mineral Processing at Penn State with my husband Charles. She was a lovely lady and I am glad to have known her. I missed the notice of her passing since I don't check the CDT regularly so hope you will still receive my note.

Shirley was always so nice to me. When I went through rough times she always sent a card to let me know she was praying for me. When she worked for Cooper Township we talked a lot. I am sorry for your loss and send heartfelt sympahty to her son, and family and Margaret Burris and her family. God Bless all of you. Shirley was a lovely lady.
