As a student of the Civil War I had the privilege to be invited as a guest at the Winters home on South Mountain in 1967 and again in 1971. John was highly respected as one of the most knowledgable historians of the war and was greatly supported in his work by Charlotte. I remember with gratitude our long trips in his jeep over the old roads used by the armies which are today little more than tracks. John's contribution to the accurate understanding of the war should not be underestimated. They will both be remembered with lasting affection.

I recently toured the WWI Museum in Kansas City, MO. I was overwhelmed by all the information I didnt realize was out there and felt the desperation all that served must have felt. Thank you for your service and bravery, Ms. Winters. May you and the others rest in peace now, knowing you will not be forgotten . God Bless your family.

Thank you, ma'am, for your courage and sacrifice. You have made this country a better place for ALL Americans, but especially for those of us women who serve in our Armed Forces. Thanks for leading the way - you are an inspiration for all of us.
