My parents published a little rag called Road & Track so I always knew Carroll, or Shel as i often heard him referred to. I went to LeMans in 1966 when he asked me to be a gopher,I was 14. A year or two later he tried to give me one of those Cobras' that he couldn't sell ,but my father said no way...16 yr old driving that ! We had lost Ken Miles recently and it hurt us all. I had the pleasure of working for Shelby Automobiles in the late 80's and early 90's as one of the directors. Carroll came into my office one day and told me he was going to get a transplant. I'll skip his joke here. I 'm glad he got so many extra years he thought he would never have. I'm glad I had over 50 years of knowing him. My heart goes out to family , he will be missed .
