Dear Shannon Family,
My son was a good friend of David's at MPHS and UNC. Words cannot express our sorrow. He loved David and has many great memories of the short time they spent together.

I will be praying for your family as you make this difficult journey forward.

God bless and keep you,
The Southwell Family

Our son, Ben, was privileged to know David through their mutual friends, Matt & Meredith and enjoyed the time he spent with David at the beach last spring. What a special young man he was! What a legacy he left for so many who loved him.
As parents, our hearts grieve with yours. We have no idea the depth of sorrow you must surely feel, but we do know that there is comfort through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who left his disciples with these words: "I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid." John 14:27
We pray that you will know that peace and comfort.

Dear Hugh, Katie and Stephen,
I am so very sorry for your loss. As many have already said, David, Malana, Ellen, John and I have been praying for you daily, especially for you to be so comforted by our Heavenly Father. The wonderful comments written about David and how he touched so many lives will bring much joy and comfort in the days to come. We love you and are thinking of you. Love, your cousin, Cornelia, from Texas.

Dear Katy, Hugh, and Stephen,
I have been thinking about you constantly since I heard the news about David. Our family experienced a similar loss when my nephew was accidentally shot while a student at App State three years ago. While I have no idea of the severity of your pain, I have a sense of what you are going through. I have known of David through Katy since my son went to Sharon and MP and was also a Scout in Troop 116. Please know that I am thinking of you and praying for you each day. May you feel the peace of God's loving arms surround you and guide you through the difficult days ahead. Dawn Milgrom

I didn't know David very well, but we had gone to school together since Carmel and shared many friends. Although we weren't close, David's bright personality and positive attitude had a great impact on my life, and I know there are so many others who feel the same way. We will never forget you David.

To David's mom: I showed my son, who is 10 year old, your son's picture and asked my son if he knew David. My son said, "Yes, I see him at church and he was at camp." I cannot imagine your loss, but I know that my son spoke on about how he admired David and that he wanted to grow up to work with other kids like David was doing. Your grief must be overwhelming, but the legacy David left to others is apparent, even to me, a stranger to your family and to your son. Dear mother in pain...my prayers are with you. My Lord is beside you always. Your comfort in Him who knows the ends of the Universe is my prayer. -Signed, another Carmel Baptist mom

We have never met, but I wanted to reach out and let you know yet another person is thinking of you and praying for peace. It's not fair. Too many what if and why questions. It's too soon. I'm sorry. One day you will be able to rejoice that you will meet again and see that he is safe and loved where he is. Take care of yourselves.

My condolences to the family on the loss of such a fine young man. May you be blessed to know that he is at peace with our Lord. Cast your cares on Him for He cares for you. Bless you all.

Hugh and Family, I cannot begin to express the sadness I feel for you and your family over the loss of your son David. I did not know David but he sounds like a wonderful person. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Hugh, Katy and Stephen,

I was so saddened to hear of your beloved son's passing. I can't stop thinking about your family and what a wonderful boy you raised in David. Although he was with us only a short time, he touched many in positive ways and lived life to the fullest.

May you find comfort in the wonderful memories of joyful times together, each other, your many friends, and in God.

With our Deepest Sympathy,
