Dear Rusty, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you will miss him. Take care of yourself.
My sympathy to the family...What a nice man.
Rusty, Susan and I just heard about your Dad. As I look back over the people in our community who made significant contributions to Hickory and to the quality of life that we all enjoyed,I remember the many contributions that your Dad made and for those we are grateful.May GOD place his hand of comfort on you and your family. Respectfully,Susan and Bill McDonald
Rusty, Evelyn and I were very sorry to read about the death of your father.
One of the many friends at Givens Estates who misses Earl at the bridge table or musical entertainments, vespers. Wherever we saw him he gave that broad smile that shows in his picture. Our loss is heaven's gift. Elaine Price
Robin, Rusty & Family,
So sorry to hear our beloved Earl has passed. I have so many fond memories of Earl as my boss, mentor and true friend at First Security Company. He had a way of always making you feel good about yourself and your work. I am in Vermont visiting my daughter, Kim and my grandchildren and am so sorry to miss the celebration of his life on Saturday. Please know my thoughts and prayers will be with you on this day and days to come. May God Bless You! Love and Peace, Gail Austin Blackburn
Earl was one of the first men I met in Hickory when Margaret and I moved to Hickory in 1970. I was transferred here from Raleigh with an insurance organization and therefore had a great relationship with your father from the get go. He was one of the main reasons we joined Viewmont Baptist Church and was always a good friend. He became a part of the Monday night outing with Roger Jordan for a couple of years until he moved to Asheville and we missed him then and have ever since. Earl was one of a kind from The Greatest Generation and it was my privilege to know him and call him friend. My condolences to the family.
Rusty: My condolence to you and the family. I was fortunate to meet both Earl and Betty and enjoyed their company at impromptu gatherings at your home in Wynnshire. Now that both my parents have passed on, I somewhat know the loss you must be feeling. Take comfort in knowing that you and the family have many friends who care about all of you. God bless.
Rusty, Robin, and Family, I was so sorry to hear about Earl. I worked for him for a long time at First Security, and we had a lot of fun times together. He will be missed by many, but hope you can find comfort that he now with the loves of life, Betty, and his Lord.
Rusty & Robin - I'll remember Earl in my heart forever. He was my mentor, a wonderful, caring boss for many years, and my friend. I admired & respected him and always will.

Rusty,Robin and family,
Our hearts are broken for your great loss. He's now in heaven with your wonderful mother and we know he is in no more pain. He and the rest of the "gang" are up there playing cards and telling jokes.
We love you all!

We have many pleasant memories of Earl. We were so glad he was able to attend our last reunion. Omega Starnes for GFHS Class of 1947.
