Condolences to the family. We have certainly lost the friendship and counsel of a very special man.
Thinking of you and of your very special friendship with our family.
Jack and I both pursued graduate studies at the Russian Institute of Columbia University; and later served in the State Department (I as a political appointee). The great importance of his FSO posts during the Cold War should be emphasized: two assignments as Deputy Chief of Mission, in Prague and Stockholm, then as Deputy Executive Secretary of the State Department, and as Ambassador to Bulgaria (1979-81). He was a pro in high stakes times. Secretary of State Cyrus Vance held Jack in very high regard.
Losing a loved one is always difficult. May the God of all comfort be with you during this time.
